Brian Ortega will be coming back in action inside the Octagon on June 29th at UFC 303 to fight against Diego Lopes. The Torrance, California native Yair Rodriguez back in February and is one of the prospects for the featherweight title. Dana White and the UFC approached Ortega at the very last minute for the fight and ‘T-City’ obliged to their demands not for himself but for a bigger cause.

In conversation with Mike Bohn, Ortega revealed that he took the fight to pay the proceeds from the fight to the church. “You know we’re fighters and not only that but I am fighting for a bigger cause this time. That is kind of what fuelled me on this fight. To help a lot of men bro, I am going to use the money and I am going to give it to church and I am going to help a lot of men. Uh, $100,000. It is basically the main reason why I accepted the fight. Yeah, it was my passion.”
Ortega has been struggling recently due to his prolonged injuries and this has pulled him closer to church. His commitment to donate that sum is a testament to his well-being. Regardless, let us move on to another featherweight, who wanted to fight at UFC 303 but was stopped by Dana White.

Interestingly, Alexander Volkanovski also approached the promotion to fight on short notice but was denied by Dana White. Well, till now it was just a meme and a rumor that ‘Great’ has offered to step in as the headliner event but now it is not a rumor anymore.
He confessed on his YouTube handle that he did approach the promotion for a short notice fight, “So I was like hey, If you need someone, you know a guy. I did put my hand up, obviously saw that some people put that up so it got out there. Some people think I am mad but I am back in training now and I am excited to get back in there. That’s all it takes, just a little thing like that and I put my hand up.”
