Alex Pereira has been on the roll recently. The light heavyweight champion defended his title back-to-back within 4 months and that too against top contenders such as Jamahal Hill and Jiri Prochazka. Without a doubt, Pereira is on the list to become the biggest star to have ever come out of the promotion. Well, what’s next for the champ? Will he jump to the heavyweight division after conquering both the middleweight and the light heavyweight division?

Well, ‘Poatan’ answered the question in his conversation on his YouTube handle: “It doesn’t interest me to fight [Tom Aspinall] at the moment. To be honest, heavyweight isn’t my objective, it isn’t my main focus… I’m talking positions. I think I’m in another position now. It doesn’t make sense for me to dispute [fight for the] interim belt.”

He further stated, “I want to rest a little, evolve my training. But I think December would be a good date for me. November or December. But before November, I don’t want to go back [to fighting]. I want to rest and evolve.” Pereira demands a bit of a rest time before his next bout. Well, now that we know about the timing of his return, let us move on to Tracy Cortez, who seems to be a bit emotional.

UFC Denver was supposed͏ to witness the clash between Maycee Barber ͏and Rose͏ Namajunas; however, ͏Barber had to pull out of the fight as her medical team wanted her to rest. Tracy Cortez stepped in on short notice ͏to face the former champ. During͏ the we͏igh͏-ins, Cortez was slightly overweight, weighing in at 125.5 lbs. She had to cut her hair to make weight.

Well, that was an emotional moment for Cortez, as she nearly broke down while having a conversation with ESPN backstage. “Yeah, you know, normally I was ahead of schedule for my original fight and had to push everything. With that one, what was it, 0.5? I was like, no hesitation, I’m going to do whatever it takes. There’s a big opportunity, and it’d be a shame to miss it by just 0.5,” confessed Cortez.

Daniel Cormier goes against Kamaru Usman on Pereira P4P debate

Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo recently sat with each other on their P4P podcast. While having a conversation about pound-for-pound fighters, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ asserted that Alex Pereira still had to achieve many things before he could be considered a top fighter and these words might have struck deep into Cormier’s heart, who is a big fan of ‘Poatan’.

The former dual-weight champion on his YouTube handle went against Usman saying, “Kamaru Usman is wrong…While I agree with you Kamaru… he does not seem to have a pound-for-pound style… but the style that he has is pound-for-pound because it is proven.”

Well, Alex Pereira’s MMA career started with UFC and since then he has been a force to reckon with, as he has been defeated only once by Israel Adesanya. What’s your take on Cormier’s comment? State your thoughts in the comments below.
