The UFC fandom seems to believe that Jon Jones is ‘ducking’ Tom Aspinall, and instead, is adamant about finding an escape via a much easier fight against Alex Pereira. This is one contest that even Dana White claims will be a one-sided affair. However, a former UFC title challenger has the opposite opinion. 47-year-old legend Yoel Romero claims Jones will have no problems when and if he takes on Tom Aspinall.
‘Soldier of God’ appears to be having a smooth transition to MMA podcasting after more than two decades of fighting. The 2000 Summer Olympics silver medalist weighed in on the Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall situation, sharing his insights and prediction on their potential clash. The Cuban believes that despite all the noise that is being made on behalf of the Englishman, ‘Bones’ has a God-given ability to take control of his fights and assess every situation inside the Octagon.
“[Jon Jones] will finish him. The thing is, Jonny has the form… God gave him the talent of being able to read what’s going on. Inside the fire,” Yoel Romero stated on the ‘Overdogs Espanol’ podcast. “Not everyone has that perception. God gave him that talent.”

Although Jones fought most of his career as a light heavyweight, that division has produced some of the meanest and the most skilled fighters in the history of MMA, and he beat them all. That’s what most fighters respect about Jones despite his issues with doping violations and legal brush-offs.

While Romero has sided with the consensus greatest of all time, there’s someone with a different opinion. And guess what? That person is none other than the highly decorated Demetrious Johnson. Here’s what ‘Mighty Mouse’ had to say.
‘Mighty Mouse’ makes his pick between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall
Demetrious Johnson believes Tom Aspinall can do the ‘un-doable’ and beat Jon Jones. How? Well, the former 11-time defending UFC flyweight champion believes that Aspinall’s unusual pace as a heavyweight will give him the edge he needs. Not only that, Johnson believes that being a natural heavyweight, the Englishman’s power could shut Jones down for good. But the real factor at lay here is age, and Aspinall is in the driver’s seat on that front.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Jon Jones really ducking Tom Aspinall, or is this just strategic matchmaking at its finest?
Have an interesting take?
“I think Tom Aspinall has the speed, the athleticism, and the power to give Jon Jones problems. Tom Aspinall is still young, and he’s still getting better, but I think this version of Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall is very – Tom Aspinall can beat him,” Demetrious Johnson stated on his YouTube channel. However, he didn’t dismiss the possibility of Aspinall getting caught by one of Jones’s moves during the fight. Anything can happen in MMA, especially at heavyweight.
Dana White is adamant about making this fight possible, so we’re kind of sure to get the answer to everybody’s question when Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall finally step up to fight each other inside the Octagon. But then again, the UFC CEO needs to take care of the “f*** you money” that ‘Bones’ is looking for. What do you think? Will we get this fight in 2025?
