Out of all the twelve weight divisions in the UFC, the lightweight division is considered to be the toughest in the UFC. And the division got another breakout star in Arman Tsarukyan after he flattened #4 ranked Beneil Dariush in the first round at their main event bout earlier this month to announce himself to the world.

With this victory, the 25-year-old has entered the 155-pound title picture. Earlier this year, UFC boss Dana White indicated that former champion Charles Oliveira would rematch champion Islam Makhachev for the title next. The Brazilian was scheduled to fight the Dagestani at UFC 294 but had to pull out due to an injury. However, their recent social media posts have given rise to theorizing from the fans.

Tsarukyan and Oliveira’s speculations intensify

At first glance, #4 ranked Arman Tsarukyan has at least two fighters ahead of him in the title shot ladder. #1 ranked Charles Oliveira, who is due to rematch the champion, and #2 ranked Justin Gaethje, who holds the BMF title. Although Dustin Poirier is also ranked ahead of the Armenian-Russian, the New Orleans is coming off a loss against Gaethje at their much-awaited UFC 291 rematch, making him unlikely to fight for the title before Tsarukyan. However, after Tsarukyan and Oliveira posted stories on their respective Instagram stories implying they would be fighting soon, fans speculated that they may be fighting each other for the official no. 1 title contender status.

“Big news is coming” Tsarukyan’s Instagram story said. On the other hand, ‘Do Bronx’ shared a fan’s Instagram story on his own account that had a picture of him in the ring and said, “THE CHAMP IS BACK”.

However, all of this is just wild speculation at this point, and nothing official has been announced yet. It may be that they are fighting different fighters or that either or both of their posts may not even be hinting at an upcoming fight announcement. However, the Georgia native thinks he deserves to fight for the title next.

Tsarukyan wants to fight for the title next

Tsarukyan faced Islam Makhachev in 2019 and lost the decision to the Dagestani after giving him one of his toughest fights. In addition, Tsarukyan was only 22 years old then and has matured and improved significantly since their last encounter. And after devastating Dariush, Tsarukyan called for a title shot against Makhachev at the post-fight press conference.

However, the chances that the 27-year-old gets to fight for the title next are slim. He would need to fight at least Justin Garhtje for the #2 title contender status. Or, if the speculations around their social media posts are to be believed, he might fight Oliveira in a title eliminator.
