The UFC world is holding its breath to witness UFC 286. The promotion has made sure that they come with an interesting fight card. The main event will be a trilogy match between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title. Moreover, the co-main event will take place between Justin Gaethje and Rafael Fiziev. Fans expect the co-main event to have the full potential to blow the roof off the O2 Arena in London.
‘The Highlight’ currently stands at 23-4, and ‘Ataman’ has achieved 12 victories and just a single loss. It is indeed difficult to predict the winner. However, currently, Fiziev is on a six-fight winning streak, whereas Gaethje lost the last bout he fought against Charles Oliveira.
After listening to ‘The Highlight’s last interview with Shak MMA, it’s quite clear that the 34-year-old’s confidence is at its peak. If needed, the former interim UFC lightweight champion can try his wrestling skills against the powerful striker.

Fans react to Justin Gaethje going for wrestling
While talking in the interview, Gaethje was asked, “You have a strong collegiate wrestling background physique, Fiziev has a very decorated striking background so what are the chances on a scale of one to ten that we’re gonna see that first Justin Gaethje take down in the UFC on Saturday.”
Gaethje started training in wrestling when he was just four; however, it seems that he is not confident in his wrestling skills at the moment. He answered, “I’m gonna say a six. I think it’s always something that you should sit and think about, so I’ll ponder that, yeah.” After listening to The Highlight, fans were quick to react.
The video eventually found its way to Reddit. Let’s take a look at some of the fan’s reactions.
Considering the past fights of the American fighter, one of the fans said,
“He has only one registered takedown attempt in his UFC career. This one hahaha. You can’t tell me he hasn’t got some force that doesn’t allow him to wrestle”
Another commented who he thinks Gaethje will wrestle
“For sure he’ll wrestle. Overeem never used PEDs either and Poirier’s wife was actually in Connor’s DMs.”
One of the fans was not happy with how the former interim lightweight champion’s career was moving forward.
“I believe him. We haven’t seen Gaethje truly press the action on his front foot since the Barboza fight. He’s been fighting smarter and he also seems not as durable as he once was. I could see him wrestling.”
One of the netizens believed that he was a terrible grappler.
“Wrestling for what? His grappling is terrible, what’s the point of using all that energy to take someone down if you can’t keep them down.”
Another fan felt Gaethje will fall short of Fiziev.
“Not to mention that fiziev has tremendous takedown defence and gaethje has zero experience wrestling in an MMA fight”
One of the fans seemed confused by the whole discussion.
“He’s a D1 wrestler who chooses not to grapple, what are you saying?”
Another fan pointed out how Gaethje is no longer a great wrestler.

“He’s abandoned his wrestling, he looked worse on the ground vs khabib than Conor did or even laquinta.”
The great wrestler in ‘The Highlight’
When Justin Gaethje was at Safford High School, he was the state champion in wrestling and an NCAA Division I All-American during his time at college. He chose MMA as his career in 2011. After two years, he joined WSOF. There, he was able to achieve the lightweight championship and became successful in defending his belts five times. In 2017, he left WSOF to join the UFC. The world now needs to wait a little longer to find out the outcome of his upcoming bout.
