Dustin Poirier was supposed to battle Benoit Sait-Denis at UFC 299. However, now the future of the fight looks grim and also confusing. The two were meant to fight in the co-main event and put up an electrifying performance right before UFC 300 but things went sideways.

Poirier would soon report that financial agreements were not made before the fight announcement and Dana White and Co., couldn’t come to terms with it afterward with ‘The Diamond’. However, fans are still confused about it. Is the fight happening? Why is Poirier still in training and is he the only one?

Dustin Poirier, is he training for no reason?

Dustin Poirier very recently took to his social media handles to let everyone know that the “fights off”. However, in the same post, he also noted that he was still training regardless. Why is the famous striker still training hard if there is no fight? Moreover, even Benoit Saint-Denis is still in camp seemingly for UFC 299.

That’s right, he uploaded a story of him posing with his team members and the Instagram story was captioned “Training champ today”.Which is probably just a misspelled sentence for ‘training camp today’ meaning Saint-Denis too is still in camp.

Now either, Poirier’s opponent didn’t receive the memo from the UFC or something is still afoot. Perhaps to serve the shock and awe value of it all, Dana White and Co., is being a bit tricky with the revelation. However, will it even serve a purpose?

There’s no one way to tell. Poirier last fought in July when he suffered a loss for the BMF title and Saint-Denis is on a brilliant five win streak. Perhaps him coming back for a fight at UFC 299 would add to his wins but then, is it even happening? Here’s how fans reacted.

Fans still searching for answers

The posts did not seem cryptic in any way. While Poirier sent out an X post, Saint-Denis uploaded a story and the two things happened pretty close to one another. This is why vigilant UFC fans were not ready to believe that the fight was really off.

While some fans were left simply confused, others speculated a different fight.

Meanwhile, others accused ‘The Diamond’ of pranking the fans.

Others wondered if someone was actually hurt leading to a pull-out.

Finally, one fan wondered if Poirier pulled out.

Either way, things are not certain around the match and UFC head honcho Dana White hasn’t come to shed any further light on it either. That put aside, UFC 300 and it’s main event still remains a solid mystery. Dana White refuses to tell the world his big secret and it only makes the fans more eager. Will a new co-main event serve UFC 299? And more importantly, will it have a shot at being bigger than UFC 300?
