Minutes After Dustin Poirier KO and Conor McGregor’s Message, Justin Gaethje’s Girlfriend Spotted in the UFC Arena Posing With the BMF Belt

The world watched with bated breath as two of the most exciting UFC Lightweight fighters put it all on the line on 29 July, at UFC 291. Justin ‘The Highlight’ Gaethje and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier clashed in the UFC Octagon on 29 July for the BMF title. The fight, although not for the divisional championship title, didn’t fall short in any aspect. In a fight that lived up to expectations for as long as it lasted, Gaethje repeated Utah’s highlight reel finish from last year, knocking out Poirier with a head kick.

The former interim champion thus claimed the vacant BMF title in a violent fashion. Shortly after the events in the cage, many of Gaethje’s close circle, including his girlfriend, were seen posing with the new strap. However, they were not the only ones who wanted a touch of the belt post-UFC 291.

Gaethje’s fans started celebrating, but the happiest was his girlfriend, Sophia Romano. After the fight, Gaethje’s girlfriend was seen posing with the BMF title. She also tagged Gaethje in her story. Furthermore, Romano uploaded a picture of Gaethje with his new belt on her Instagram profile. Although Gaethje had dubbed the BMF belt as ‘stupid’ at first, it seems he has taken a liking to the respect that comes with that iconic belt.

Although Gaethje was called ‘reckless’ by Dustin Poirier, ‘The Highlight’ used it to his advantage, turned the game around, and won the fight in round 2 by K.O./T.K.O. Poirier, who is generally more calculated and astute in striking, was the natural favorite in this fight between the two, for a lot of people. However, Gaethje’s growth in the game was proved beyond doubt as he won the BMF belt and settled the score for the first loss he suffered against Poirier back in 2018.

While Gaethje has even the score against Poirier, another UFC star has set his sights on the 34-year-old and his new title.

Conor McGregor targets Justin Gaethje next

With the statement win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 291, Justin Gaethje has made himself a target for Conor McGregor. The former two-weight champion took to Twitter to issue a callout without mincing any words.

Now, there has been another development in this. Former UFC Lightweight champion Conor McGregor has sent a message to the newly crowned BMF champion. He tweeted, saying, “Justin, I’ll slap you around.”

He followed that up with another Tweet that read, “I’m the real BMF, he can fight for pennies if he wants but I want spirits, I call the shots, I’m in it to launch shots, f*** Chandler, you want it call for it.“.

Conor McGregor, who was supposed to return to the UFC this year to face his TUF rival Michael Chandler, is yet to join the USADA pool. His harrowing TUF defeat to Team Chandler was also another nail in the coffin. But now, it seems he is no longer entertained by the idea of fighting Michael Chandler but wants to fight Justin Gaethje for the BMF title.
