Michal Oleksiejczuk, or ‘Hussar’, who has earned two Performance of the Night bonuses in his last four fights, has shown flashes of brilliance and has an exciting fighting style to boot. Although Oleksiejczuk has seldom failed to impress the fight fans with his fighting prowess, he lost his last couple of bouts and is currently running on a two-fight losing streak. Needless to say, the middleweight is trying his best to overturn his losing streak.

Apart from talks about his on-stage performances, the fighting community has often questioned the middleweight contender’s origins. Today, let us take a deep dive and find out where his roots lie.

Michal Oleksiejczuk, as the preponderance of consonants in his last name suggests, is from Poland. The former Thunderstrike Fighting League champion was born in the town of Leczna in the eastern part of the Polish frontier.

While his exact ethnic antecedents are unknown, the part of Poland he is from is populated by Ukrainians, Poles, and Jews. The 29-year-old prefers to keep his personal life private as no information is currently available about the Pole’s family. But, based on his social media, it seems he is married and has a two-year-old daughter, whose birthday they celebrated last September.

A dedicated family man, ‘Hussar’ often posts pictures of himself, out about town and on outings, spending quality time with his family. Just three weeks ago, the power couple posted a picture capturing the moment of the baptism of baby Kornelka.

The 29-year-old, despite his mixed UFC record, comes from a Championship pedigree and is determined to become a UFC champion. His next fight against Holland will be a tough test and will determine whether or not he is ready to take a step up in competition.

How did ‘Hussar’ start fighting?

Oleksiejczuk always wanted to be a mixed martial artist. While the sport has been a popular one in the Eastern European country, ‘Hussar’ started training in MMA, at 16, according to information he gave the UFC after he joined it in 2017.

Unsurprisingly, the Pole’s favorite fighter is fellow Eastern European legend, Mirko ‘Cro Cop’, who was among the earliest superstars in the sport and is a cult figure, especially in the region ‘Hussar’ hails from. The Pole turned professional over a decade ago, in 2014, and after some initial hiccups put together a nine-fight win streak.

During this unbeaten run, he won the TFL light heavyweight championship and managed to defend it twice, which was enough to earn him a call-up to the world’s largest, most popular MMA promotion: the UFC. And while he may have a mixed record in the UFC (7-6 and one no-contest), his fighting style is nothing but exciting. And that matters a whole lot more in the UFC, where the best fight the best, than an undefeated record.

Now, Oleksiejczuk is about to land against the undefeated Sharaputdin Magomedov in the co-main event for UFC on ABC 7. Will he be able to defeat the Dagestani phenom? That is something only time has the power to tell. What do you think of Oleksiejczuk’s skills in the Octagon? Let us know in the comments below.
