Is Kung Fu Michael ‘Venom’ Page’s fighting style?

Michael ‘Venom’ Page is known for his highlight reel-making stunning knockouts and if you look hard enough, there are a lot of clips available on YouTube to justify that fact. Moreover, fighting comes naturally to the Englishman as he dipped his hands in kickboxing, much like Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira, and karate before venturing into mixed martial arts, and not Kung Fu. This background, according to Page, laid the foundation for the unique fighting style that he possesses today.

In an interview with Michael Bisping, Page said, “It did lean into a lot of my strength training and stuff came from my Lau [Garbunder]. My flexibility, and my kicking ability, all came from the Lau [Garbunder] Kung Fu. And then, I was able to execute those moves in the kickboxing, and then the kickboxing kind of formed the style.”

Moreover, it bears a mention that even his family is ingrained in combat. According to Bleacher Report, he is the son of mixed-marital artist parents and it was his father who brought him into the world of combat sports. Not to mention, he is also the nephew of kung fu master, Stan Brown. Safe to say, fighting is in his blood and it is evident from his background.

Page displayed his strong fighting skills in the UFC as he took on the fight against Kevin Holland at UFC 299 and won via a unanimous decision. But did you know that he was a kickboxer before he entered the MMA realm? Let’s see how that helped him achieve success in the MMA world.

MVP’s kickboxing career and record

As we mentioned earlier, before becoming a martial artist, Page was a freestyler kickboxer and he has a pretty good record. He bagged an impressive ten world championships, with the first one coming at the age of 12 at the US Open Iska World Championships back in 1998. But the most astounding feat is that Page was crowned the British champion a total of twenty-five times.

But the most important thing, according to Michael Page himself, is that his foundation built great acumen in him, and in an interview with ‘MMA Junkie,’ he said, “The positive for it is that your distancing for actually landing shots is increased. I can hit you from further away than most people are used to in MMA.”

That being said, it will be interesting to see when one striking aficionado meets another in Saudi Arabia at UFC Fight Night 250. How do you see that fight going this weekend? Let us know in the comments below.
