A recent child custody trial involving a Hollywood movie star has become the talk of the town. The actor in question has been ordered to pay a sum of $636,000 as child support to his ex-wife. Fellow actor and famous martial artist Michael Jai White shared his thoughts about the ongoing viral child support issue.

Hollywood is never short of controversies and drama. Actor and singer Tyrese Gibson and his ex-wife, Samantha Lee Gibson, recently got into a child custody battle which saw him on the losing side. The ‘Fast X’ actor married his second wife Samantha Lee Gibson in 2017. But in December 2020, Samantha Lee decided to call it quits and announced that the couple was going to get divorced. They also had a child together named Soraya Lee Gibson. However, things took an ugly turn when the former partners got into a custody battle for their 4-year-old daughter. This followed a trial that saw Tyrese Gibson getting ordered to pay $10,000 monthly as child support to his wife, Samantha Lee. However, according to TMZ, the 44-year-old actor only paid $2,236 every month. Tyrese Gibson even issued a public callout to the judge for his supposed unjust decision.

But the court didn’t take that lightly. The Fulton County court held Gibson in contempt of the court and ordered him to a new child support sum of over  $250,000, representing the amount he owes his ex-wife, including interest. The judge could have had the ‘Fast and the Furious’ star arrested, but he snubbed that idea. In addition to the new child support fee, the court has also ordered Gibson to pay Samantha Lee’s legal fees, amounting to almost $400,000. Leading up to the court’s new decision, the 44-year-old actor took to social media to ask for support from the fans to fight against the judge.

Michael Jai White gives his opinion on Gibson’s reluctance to pay the amount ordered by the court

Michael Jai White may have never competed in mixed martial arts. However, he holds seven legitimate black belts in multiple martial art disciplines. It includes Shotokan, Tae Kwon Do, Kobudo, Goju Ryu, Tang Soo Do, Wushu, and Kyokushin. White is one of the most respected personalities in the martial arts community. The ‘Blood and Bones’ actor recently appeared in a video posted by ‘djvlad’ on YouTube. He spoke about the ongoing child support situation with Tyrese Gibson, with whom he’s worked in a couple of movies. He mentioned how it was a normal situation for someone in Gibson’s position to be able to pay for what the court had ordered initially, given the number of movies he has made. White said, “That man could afford this… I don’t think $60000 is more than your [hypothetical] cousin who has to pay $600.”

Michael Jai White mentioned that $10,000 dollars shouldn’t have been a big deal for Tyrese Gibson. He said, “Him paying $10,000 a month in child support, okay? I mean… it’s like how much you make.” The famous action star also added that the amount of child support paid is proportional to the net worth of an individual. However, White wasn’t surprised to see him contest the child support payment ordered by the court since he was an emotional person. “It’s not surprising that he’d go all out this way because he’s a passionate type of person.”
