The UFC on Fight Island 8 card now officially has a new headliner. The card was originally scheduled to headline by Khamzat Chimaev and Leon Edwards in an intriguing welterweight clash. But Michael Chiesa will now fight Neil Magny in the main event of the January 20th card.

Chimaev had to withdraw from the event, as his proposed bout against Edwards fell off for the second time now. ‘Borz’ had contracted coronavirus and will need time to recover his lungs from the disease.

In an interview with The Schmo, UFC President Dana White confirmed the news of pushing the co-main event to the main-event spot. Nevertheless, it will be a fascinating encounter between yet another pair of top welterweights.

‘Maverick’ Chiesa will be coming into the bout with a lot of momentum as he is currently on a 3 fight winning streak. His last win over Rafael Dos Anjos was probably Chiesa’s biggest in his career.

As for ‘The Haitian Dream’ Neil Magny, is riding on a 3-fight winning streak of his own. Also, his last win against Robbie Lawler was probably the most important of his career.

With two top welterweights carrying such momentum and going head to head, fireworks must be expected. It is an exciting stylistic match up worthy of a main-event spot. Both fighters will be looking to use this opportunity as a springboard for sure.
