Can Michael Chandler finally lure Conor McGregor back, or is the Irishman done with the Octagon?

One of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC, Michael Chandler, certainly lived up to his reputation at UFC 309 in a barn-burner of a rematch against Charles Oliveira. Despite his unanimous decision loss, ‘Iron put on a commendable performance in one of the most memorable 5th-round wars ever. Given that his chance to earn a title shot didn’t work out, Chandler decided to revert to an old foe, ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor.

Michael Chandler was at his entertaining best in the aftermath of his co-main event clash at Madison Square Garden. The US President-elect, Donald Trump was in the house to witness the UFC 309 action at MSG, and he loved what he witnessed in the co-main event and even had a word with the 37-year-old star after the fight. When Joe Rogan decided to have a chat with the former Bellator champion, even instructing the cameraman to focus on the lightweight star, Chandler decided to call Conor McGregor out once again for their previously planned welterweight clash.

“Conor McGregor, if you can ever get your house back in order while us, [the] real professionals, have been keeping the Octagon warm. We’re wondering where you’ve been, Conor,” Michael Chandler yelled out, as fans responded with cheers for the 37-year-old. “Come back and beat me, if you can.” Will McGregor issue his response to ‘Iron’? That remains to be seen.

If we’ve learned one thing about a potential Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler fight, fans appear to want to witness it, judging by the way they reacted when the latter called the Irishman out. Meanwhile, Chandler also has another fight in mind, and that’s also for a championship.

Michael Chandler is eyeing the BMF championship as well

Michael Chandler is all about fighting for the title, and now that Charles Oliveira‘s next in line after Arman Tsarukyan with his second win over ‘Iron’, the 37-year-old also decided to give a warning to BMF champion Max Holloway. Apparently, fighting for the BMF champion doesn’t seem so bad of an idea for Chandler, given that he’s been quite consistent with his amazing performances inside the Octagon, despite the results not turning out in his favor.

Have an interesting take?

“Madison Square Garden, are you not entertained? Hey, I have a bunch of callouts. I was supposed to show up tonight, do my job, and win the fight,” Michael Chandler added. “Forget calling out Islam [Makhachev], Charles is doing that next. Maybe Max Holloway for the BMF belt [could be his next fight].” There’s no doubt that this fight will be a blockbuster given what Holloway did to former BMF champion, Justin Gaethje.

Conor McGregor’s been as busy as he can be with his business outside the Octagon, and still, we have no idea as to when he’d come back. But Dana White has given his word, and an early 2025 return for the Irishman seems to be what the UFC is gunning for. It remains to be seen how things pan out for Michael Chandler in the days to come.
