Despite being out of the octagon for over two years, Conor McGregor is as dramatic as ever. ‘Notorious’ seems not to have lost any of his penchant for the theatrical that makes him such an entertaining and bombastic personality.

In a video posted on his social media yesterday, ‘Mac’ announced that he would be fighting Michael Chandler on June 29, 2024-at middleweight, to everyone’s surprise. Knowing full well how it would go down with the fans and Chandler himself, the Irishman couldn’t help but give an evil laugh as he made the announcement. And UFC commentator Daniel Cormier feels this is McGregor playing the villain and advised Chandler to become the bad guy if he wants to change the power dynamics.

The former UFC champion asked why Conor McGregor had chosen to make his comeback at the middleweight when neither ‘Mac’ nor Chandler had fought in that weight class. He had a very simple explanation for this. “McGregor is not a middleweight. So then you ask yourself why is he saying 185? You remember Dr Evil?… That’s what McGregor’s doing. McGregor’s being the villain,” the New Orleans native told fans on his YouTube channel.

According to ‘DC’, the former Bellator champion should have played the bad guy against ‘Mac’ when the latter was dragging his feet on their bout. His refusal to call out McGregor for wasting his time and stringing him along had caused the Dubliner to take him for granted and put him in a worse position.

“Michael Chandler’s a good guy. Michael Chandler refuses to play the bad guy even if… [it] play to his benefit. He should have played the bad guy a little bit in this situation and said ‘f**k off, I’m done with you. You’re taking too long, you’re pulling my strings I haven’t fought because you aren’t ready to fight, you’re doing things that aren’t allowing me to go make money,'” he said.

“He should have said ‘to h*ll with it,’ and I believe if he’d have said to h*ll with it, McGregor probably would have came back to him a little sooner. But he never did, so now it’s compounding,” the former two-division champion added. Now, however, ‘Mac’ held all the power and may actually force the 37-year-old to fight at 185, ‘DC’ continued.

Daniel Cormier felt that Chandler’s docility had put him in a position where ‘Mac’ held all the cards, as he knows the Missouri-native wants to fight him desperately because it would be the biggest paycheck of his career. A

nd if McGregor seriously wanted the fight to be at middleweight (which, without an official announcement from the UFC, is still hypothetical), Chandler would have no choice but to fight at middleweight. “If McGregor is serious and if McGregor insists that this fight takes place at 185, it’s going to take place at 185 because Mike’s not going to tell him no,” Cormier said.
