Will Chandler finally break his MSG curse, or is Oliveira set to crush his dreams again?

Is the unfinished business between Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor going to remain unfinished? Well, according to the 23-8 lightweight, it might see a conclusion, and soon. Chandler is returning inside the Octagon after 2 years and is squaring off against Charles Oliveira. This rematch came after McGregor disappointed Chandler by not showing up due to injury at UFC 303. Now the Missouri native has promised to shock everyone and he also spilled a secret along with that!

As Chandler prepares to seize the next big opportunity other than a McGregor fight, ESPN MMA got the biggest secret from him. Let’s see what he said.

While speaking to ESPN MMA’s  Brett Okamoto the lightweight mentioned an upcoming news which he wished he had kept secret. Okamoto asked him about ‘The Notorious’ who has not been in the Octagon for almost 3 years now and withdrew against ‘Iron’ at UFC 303  due to a toe injury. Chandler spoke about the prospects of a matchup with McGregor and said,We’ll see I mean he’ll probably hear from me for sure. When I rip off a promo at the end of the fight… Probably should have kept that a secret but we’ll see.”

He also mentioned that his team has got something planned and McGregor’s name is crucial in it.  ‘Iron’ added, “I mean Chandler vs McGregor – we are tied together for the rest of our lives whether we fight or we don’t fight and I do believe if he comes back he wants to right that wrong of pulling out of tough 31. Pulling out of June 29th UFC 303. Cause I think as I have said before he is more romantic about this sport that people give him credit for.”

Chandler also mentioned that he has unfinished business with McGregor and that is why his name is brought up. Apart from that becoming the no.1 lightweight in the UFC for him does not include the Irishman because he is ready to fight anyone after he gets this work done with Charles Olivera. He is ready to take other opponents but McGregor has not left his shelves. He even decided to promise that he was going to give a shocking performance but it did not faze ‘Do Bronx’ at all.

Recently, ‘Do Bronx’ replied to Chandler’s desire to ‘fight fire with fire’ in an interview with MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck. Heck asked Oliveira about Chandler’s warnings and Oliveira responded calmly. The Brazilian said,  “I know he’s a tough guy, but I’m ready for him. I know he’s very motivated and a very tough opponent. But I’m also very ready and highly motivated. I’m ready to go.” Even though Oliveira lost to Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 he is ready for Chandler who last fought Dustin Poirier back in 2022 at MSG and lost via submission.

He is 0-3 in MSG in career fights and is looking to break the streak. ‘Iron’ even spoke to Ariel Helwani about this and said, “I’m defeated at MSG, 0-3. I actually just ran into a dude who had been to all three of my fights at MSG and he’s like ‘Hey dude, we’re going to break the MSG Curse [at UFC 309]’.” Chandler had lost in a third-round submission to Poirier and then a unanimous decision to Justin Gaethje the year before that. But he has never failed to entertain in any of his UFC bouts so far. He also lost to a doctor’s stoppage defeat against Brent Primus for the Bellator lightweight title back in 2017. Now Chandler is expecting to right the losses, this time against Oliveira, with almost all of his prospects on the line.

Currently, everyone is ready to see their rematch at the UFC 309 co-main event. Will Chandler win this time since he lost to Oliveira last time? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
