Is Michael Bisping right about Khalil Rountree posing a serious threat to Alex Pereira?

Khalil Rountree Jr. is all set to take on Alex Pereira in the upcoming UFC 307 event in October. The #8 ranked light-heavyweight fighter is ready for a striking war-fare against ‘Poatan’ and is in no mood to back off. ‘The War Horse’ is unbeaten in his last five fights, and a former UFC champion feels he might just come out on top at UFC 307.

Pereira is fresh off two-back to title defenses in the year and will confidently enter the fight. However, there is no denying the fact that Rountree Jr. might just be the biggest challenge for the Brazilian to date and could surprise everyone.

Khalil Rountree Jr. had lost a bit of momentum in the division after getting banned following a failed drug test in May. But the 34-year-old has made a remarkable comeback and is unbeaten in his last five fights. His next challenge is to get past Pereira’s threat, and Michael Bisping feels he can do so. The former champion took to his YouTube channel, where he discussed the fight with Anthony Smith. Bisping said, “But it will say this though. He is a hot take for him. “

Alex Pereira, to date, has faced some elite strikers in the division, but Rountree Jr. is the best in the sport, feels ‘The Count.’ Out of his last five victories, four of them have come via knockout, which backs his claims. ‘The War Horse’ also has a slight advantage going into the contest as he has better wrestling than the Brazilian.

After mapping all possibilities, Bisping picked his favorite for the fight and said, “Khalil might be the best striker in mixed martial arts that Alex Pereira has fought. When you look at Khalil, he is so shelled up he’s like a teenage mutant Ninja turtle. His chin is tucked in. He’s got good power. He’s fast. He’s got a massive opportunity. I don’t think it’s a wild thing to consider that Khalil might go out there and beat Alex Pereira.”

As a champion, Alex Pereira successfully defended his title twice this year and won both fights via knockout. However, there’s one massive drawback in his game, which doesn’t make him the best MMA fighter. Former UFC fighter Alistair Overeem points out the reason behind that.

Alistair Overeem points out the biggest change Alex Pereira needs to make in his game

Will Alex Pereira’s unbeaten run last at UFC? Although given the champ’s dominant run, it might seem an odd question, but that’s the truth when it comes to any champion. Every athlete has his weaknesses, which hampers his performance.  Putting this into perspective, Alistair Overeem recently weighed in on what might bring the downfall for ‘Poatan’. The Dutch fighting star has previously also shared the same outlook while speaking to talkSPORT as well. Overeem believes that Pereira’s striking is second to none. But his ground game needs a lot of work. It is only a matter of time before his weaknesses are exposed, he shared on the ‘Jaxxon Podcast’.

The Dutch fighting star said, “He has an impressive resume, right? He knocked out Israel Adesanya I think twice followed Adesanya into UFC and then he is just winning his fights without any grappling and any ground so I kind of looked into it. I don’t see a long-term for him because he just does not have that ground you know even though he is strong and he is big. But you need to also be sharp right, you need to take other people down at some point. I mean, he is very good in the standup, but I don’t know, I am skeptical.” Pereira is a true student of the game and often can be seen working with his coach to improve his ground game. He also holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and ruling out his ground game completely might just backfire for his opponents.
