Recently, former UFC champion Daniel Cormier made headlines when he said that Muhammad deserved a shot at the title. UFC President Dana White brushed off Cormier‘s comments. White admitted that the idea of Muhammad fighting for the title is nice, but Cormier is not the one who makes decisions.
Daniel Cormier has responded to this statement in his recent YouTube video. “I did say that based on merit and win streak it should be Belal Muhammad. But there was another minute of reasons why I said unfortunately it’s probably not going to be (Belal). Because at the end of the day, it doesn’t always just come down to merit”, Cormier said.
According to DC, he understands that while Muhammad might have one of the most impressive win streaks in the division, other fighters like Masvidal and Covington can draw bigger numbers. “But I stand on that in terms of win streak and other things that he’s done, he deserves it. Sadly I don’t think it’s going to be him. Honestly in business sometimes, merit doesn’t always garner you what you think that you deserve”, DC said.

Belal Muhammad’s UFC record
Muhammad is currently on a nine-fight unbeaten streak. The Chicago native made his debut in 2016 and has since compiled an impressive 13-3-1 record inside the UFC cage. Muhammad‘s well-rounded skill set and relentless pressure have led him to victories over tough opponents like Demian Maia and Stephen Thompson.
He most recently dominated Sean Brady to earn a KO victory. With his sights set on the top of the division, Muhammad‘s exciting style and impressive win streak have certainly made him a fighter to watch in the UFC. Belal may not be next in line for a title shot. However, it’s only a matter of time before Muhammad gets his chance to prove himself as a champion in the UFC.
