Joe Rogan has set up yet another bar for the comedians out there. The JRE host has finally returned to the land of comedy with his new Netflix special, ‘Burn The Boats’. And believe me, he isn’t lagging behind in the rankings. Within just a couple of hours of its premiere on the 4th of August, 2024, Rogan’s Netflix special became the number 1 TV show in the United States. Despite the successful run, Rogan faced a new challenge.

The American conspiracy theorist and former mainstream comedian, Owen Benjamin, accused the UFC color commentator of stealing jokes. Crazy, right? Let’s see what Benjamin had to say about Rogan’s new comedy special.

Right after ‘Burn The Boats’ hit the OTT platform, the entire globe began rolling on the floor with laughter. However, Owen Benjamin made a revelation that sent a shockwave through the world. He took to Instagram and claimed that some of Rogan’s jokes in his new special were not originally his own. Benjamin began by connecting entertainment with the concept of Nicholas Cage’s movie, ‘Dream Scenario’. In the movie, things begin to take the wrong turn when Cage’s character turns down the brand deals and the public turns against him. And surprisingly, the same is true when it comes to entertainment.

“If you don’t take the sponsorships to sell poison and propaganda that’s when the character assassinations start,” Benjamin wrote. But then he revealed that Rogan’s jokes on ‘mental illness’ were, in fact, Benjamin’s jokes that he performed about 4 years ago. He continued, “But it’s good to see joe Rogan do all the jokes we did 4 years ago that he publicly called “mental illness.” I’m not being sarcastic. I’m happy the public gets to see the jokes now even if they aren’t from me or the people who did them back when they were relevant. And the good thing about not getting credit is you don’t owe anyone anything. That’s why it’s called “credit.”

In the IG post, Benjamin shared a picture of Rogan performing on the stage. But the catch was a drawing of a stool right above another placed on the stage. The picture seemingly concluded that the JRE host’s height was equivalent to two stools. And to emphasize giving credit, Benjamin wrote, “Stool joke credit @hometown_bear.”

However, ‘Mental Illness’ wasn’t the only part where Rogan was accused of stealing another comedian’s jokes. A post on Reddit highlighted the uncanny similarity between one of Rogan’s jokes and that of Brendan Schaub’s.

Did Rogan steal a joke from Brendan Schaub?

Not too long after Rogan’s Netflix special was aired, a user on Reddit made side-by-side comparisons of Rogan and Schaub. The 56-year-old comedian’s lines from the special were, “I am the opposite. I wish I was gay; it looks way easier. You are hanging out with only guys, no one can get pregnant…” And on the set of ‘Gringo Papi’ show, Schaub had said, “My life would be so much easier if I was just gay as sh*t. If I was locked down with the bros during quarantine with the homies, you know how much fun we would have?…”

Needless to say, the netizens noticed the resemblance between the two and began a debate in the comments section. It’s definitely not the first time Rogan faced the audience’s wrath. But regardless of the controversies and accusations, ‘Burn The Boats’ has soared in the rankings with every single American giving it a watch.
