There’s more to Sean O’Malley than his polarising persona and his in-cage accomplishments. The UFC bantamweight champion has a successful life outside the cage as much as inside it. Ahead of his return to the Octagon this weekend for his first title defense, we will take a closer look at O’Malley’s family, particularly his sister Mashayla.

O’Malley defeated then-bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292 in August last year. There was a feeling among fans that it was just a matter of time before ‘Funk Master’, with his world-class grappling would take ‘Suga’ to the ground and end the bout there. However, the supremely confident O’Malley proved everyone wrong. As the 29-year-old sets up for his first title defense against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 299 next month, let us explore his relationship with his sister Mashayla O’Malley. and how the pair contributed to each other’s success.

Sean O’Malley is the second of four siblings and has two brothers, Daniel and Mykel, and a sister, Mashayla. Born in 2004, his sister is nine years younger than ‘Suga’ and like her older brother, is a gifted athlete. She has also trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but did not pursue it in any competitive capacity.

She is also a state basketball champion, having won it as part of her high school’s basketball team Helena Capital. After school, where she was reported to be a straight-A student, she started working as an investor and a real estate agent, based out of Glendale, Arizona, according to her Instagram bio.

According to a recent Instagram post on her account, she also sold a house to her brother, Sean in March last year. She has also appeared on an episode of the ‘Bro Malley Show’, replacing their brother Daniel where it was apparent that she was close to her UFC star brother. Another post on her IG shows her attending a UFC event with Sean, all signs as to how the pair support each other in their interests.

The O’Malley sister is as much a competitive athlete as her UFC champion brother. Back in 2020, her team was trailing for 32 minutes of regulation against their rivals Helena High. She gave her team the lead in overtime, followed by some heroics that saw her scoring 14 points to go with seven rebounds and five steals along with two assists.

“I could not lose that game. I would not be sleeping. I just told myself, ‘We’re winning this game.’ Once those free throws dropped and we went into overtime, I was like ‘We’re winning,'” she said after the game.

It seems like the athletic spirit runs in the O’Malley family, but Sean and Mashayla are not the only ones up for a challenge. ‘Suga’s interaction with his brother Daniel in an MMA cage during an episode of the Bro Malley show was peak comedy and wholesome for his viewers. Let us see what happened.

Sean O’Malley does a combat sports and entertainment show with his younger brother, Daniel. And while Daniel is not a martial artist, he is a combat sports enthusiast. The two brothers share a great rapport and are always up for messing with each other, typical of brothers as was demonstrated in a painful incident two years ago.

In a 2021 episode of their show, Daniel suggested that he wanted to wear protective equipment and try to take a body shot from his UFC fighter brother, to see how it felt. Sean egged him on, saying “I think you could take one. I really do.” The duo then went to the cage in their garage where Daniel wore protective gear and Sean proceeded to hit him hard with boxing gloves, downing his younger brother. “Oh my god, that actually hurts so bad. I’m good, but holy crap, that hurt. That knocked the wind out of me,” Daniel said as he lay on the floor wincing from the punches.
