When you hear the name ‘Usman’ in the world of UFC and MMA, you probably think of the former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. The #6 pound-for-pound fighter has been one of the most consistent and dominant fighters in the promotion. Moreover, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ was the welterweight champ for 3 years before losing the title to Leon Edwards.

But there is another impressive fighter who carries the name ‘Usman’ and is steadily rising in UFC’s rankings. He is none other than Kamaru Usman’s younger brother, Mohammed Usman. The winner of TUF 30, the younger Usman brother has had two fights in the UFC. Here are some of the important details about ‘The Motor’.

Mohammed Usman Weight Division – Heavier Than His Brother?

For the entirety of his career, Kamaru Usman has fought in the welterweight division (170 lbs). However, his brother Mohammed Usman fights in a much heavier weight class, heavyweight (240 lbs). In his last weigh in, ‘The Motor’ weighed 239 lbs, which is 69 lbs heavier than his elder brother’s last weigh in (170 lbs).

Furthermore, there is not a significant age difference between the two brothers. While Kamaru is 36-years-old, his brother is just 2 years younger, at 34 years of age. Moreover, the two brothers train at different gyms.

Mohammed trains at the Fortis MMA gym in Dallas, Texas. On the other hand, Usman trains at ONX Sports gym in Salt Lake City, UT. Talking about their height difference, Mohammed Usman stands at 6’2. On the other hand, Usman is just 2 inch shorter, at 6’0.

Mohammed Usman’s Record vs. Kamaru Usman’s Record

Both the Usman brothers have impressive MMA records. According to Tapology, Kamaru Usman carries an exceptional record of 20 wins with just 3 losses. Moreover, two of his three losses came back-to-back against Leon Edwards at UFC 278 and UFC 286.

Talking about his brother, Mohammed carries a record of 11 wins with just 2 losses, as per Tapology. His first loss was against Don’Tale Mayes at Victory FC 60 in 2018. 3 years later, ‘The Motor’ lost his second fight against Brandon Sayles at PFL 3 in 2021. Interestingly, both Kamaru and Mohammed have lost one fight via rear naked choke submission and one fight via unanimous decision.

As both these fighters have solid MMA records, it is difficult for the fans to decide who is better. However, at Mohammed Usman’s age, Usman was already a UFC champion and had defeated some of the best UFC fighters in his division. Meanwhile, ‘The Motor’ is yet to prove his worth against elite fighters in Dana White’s promotion.

When Kamaru Usman gave fight-changing advice to his brother

Kamaru and Mohammed share a close bond with each other. This is why ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ was with his sibling when the latter faced Junior Tafa at UFC Vegas 71. Initially in the fight, the younger Usman brother was having trouble in face-to-face combat with Tafa.

However, he decided to take the fight to the ground, where he got much more success. In between rounds, Kamaru Usman was seen talking to his brother and giving him some much-needed advice. At the end, it was Mohammed who came out victorious via a unanimous decision.

In the post fight conference, ‘The Motor’ revealed what his older brother said to him. “My brother just kept saying the same thing over and over again. (He told me) Don’t rush, stay patient,” said the UFC heavyweight. Applying his brother’s advice into the fight, Mohammed was able to turn things around and bag his second UFC victory.
