Ever wondered, what is that one fight that will be remembered by the undisputed heavyweight champion, Jon Jones? His clash against Dominick Reyes is certainly the top contender. If there’s one man who pushed Jones to his limits it was none other than Reyes. Their clash happened way back in  2020 at UFC 247. Reyes came very close to defeating the undefeated star but in the end, it was a unanimous decision loss for the California native. The judges might have scored the cards in the favour of ‘Bones’ but the MMA community thought that Reyes clinched the victory.

Their rivalry ended right there as they never talked about the clash or a rematch ever again. Regardless, almost after four years it all went down, the epic duo is making all the buzz in the MMA community. But is it just reminiscing about what all went down or the start of a redemption story, it is too early to tell. ‘The Devastator’ believes that he defeated Jones in their clash back in 2020. And in their most recent escapade, the duo have been sharing some heated exchanges. So here’s what’s cooking.

The undisputed champion of the world, Jon Jones is about to return to the Octagon soon after tearing his pectoral muscles before his clash against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295. This injury has already delayed his clash with Miocic, however, seems like old rivalries die hard, and Bones’ beef with Reyes is on the cards again. ‘The Devastator’ has recently made a comeback to the Octagon after 2 years of hiatus and has already won his comeback fight against Dustin Jacoby breaking his 4 fight losing streak after the Jones fight.

Reyes in his recent conversation with renowned MMA journalist, Ariel Helwani proclaimed that he was the real winner of the clash between him and Jones, “Forever he’ll also be known as who lost to me, maybe we can figure that one out one day. It is, not a belief. that’s a fact.” said Reyes. ‘The Devastator’ was completely unfiltered in his approach towards Jones when he said this. Nonetheless, Reyes’s words have been taken cognizance by Jones.

“Dominick when you look back at our fight, I don’t want you to ever question me or those judges. Look at your own heart, your own endurance. You didn’t do enough. The sooner you accept that the better athlete you become,” wrote Jones on X. The Heavyweight champion believes that it’s now wise to comment on their fight as it happened four years ago.

Reyes seems to have taken Jone’s advice as in a post sharing their back and forth, ‘The Devastator ‘ commented, “Appreciate the advice, Jon. God bless. Good luck on your journey, and may you finish with a full heart.” The Cali native put an end to their rivalry in a rather beautiful manner. Down in his conversation with Helwani, Reyes also disclosed what he felt after losing to Jones.

Reyes opens up about losing a close battle with Jones

If we were to describe their fight in a single world, then it would be within reach. Reyes surprised Jones with his combo of attackers which took the undefeated star by shock. It was so close that most of the MMA community believed that ‘The Devastator’ clinched the victory pulling up the biggest upset back at UFC 247. However, the judges gave the victory to Jones. Reyes’s life went downhill from there as he lost his track.

Reyes in his confession to Helwani said, “I lost my way. I was looking for something that I already had. I thought I needed to do more after the [Jon] Jones fight. I felt like I could have given more somehow when in reality I gave everything I had and then some. And it took a lot from me. And I was searching for more and I lost my way looking for something that wasn’t there.”

Things were tough for the former light heavyweight contender as he kept on losing again and again after his clash against Jones but his recent victory seems to have pulled him out of his misery.
