Max Griffin is one of the handful of fighters who ended a fight with a gruesome gift for their opponent. Fighting so hard that the cage-side doctors are forced to stop the fight stands as proof of their strength. But not a single fighter, except ‘Pain’ of course, ever decided to ink their opponent’s injury on their body. This indeed took the tattoo’s intimidation factor up a notch.

But do you know the complete story behind Griffin’s body inks? Join us as we take a deep dive and learn all about the welterweight contender’s tattoos.

Back in 2020, Griffin locked horns with Ramiz Brahimaj at UFC on ESPN 17. Although the bout greatly entertained the fighting community, things became squeamish as one of Griffin’s elbow strikes almost separated his opponent’s ear off of his head in the third round. Needless to say, the fight was stopped by the cage-side doctors, and ‘Pain’ won via TKO. But the shocker came after the fight when the Sacramento resident decided to commemorate his victory with a tattoo.

The welterweight fighter had Brahimaj’s ear drawn on his elbow, which appeared to be squirting blood all around. On top of that, the ear seemed to have been pierced by a katana inked on Griffin’s forearm. According to the Cageside Press, Griffin, back in 2021, said, “A lot of it was having fun being authentic. I’m a fun guy. I’m a jovial guy. So I was able to go do that and, in the process of that, I not only whooped the shit out of the guy, but I knocked his ear off at the end and had one of the most grotesque finishes in UFC history. I’m the ear-man and I’m riding the wave.”

No doubt, Griffin’s family, especially his mother, weren’t happy about the tattoo. But the welterweight had to stick to it because the incident went viral on the internet. All he had to say was, “Now I got an ear tattoo on my arm and I’m known as the ear collector.”

What is tattooed on Max Griffin’s chest? Other inks on his body

One of the most prominent tattoos on Griffin’s body is the text ‘Only God Can Judge Me’ written across his chest. This indeed reflects on his faith and religious beliefs. There’s also a brass knuckle on the right side of his torso. The handheld melee weapon being a symbol of strength, seemingly points at the welterweight contender’s striking prowess. The tattoo on his right arm seems like his skin is giving way to an underlying mechanical system.

On his left forearm, Griffin has inked the picture of a Samurai warrior, posed with a katana in his hand. This is indeed the same katana that has pierced the ear tattoo on his left elbow. On his left arm, there’s a creature crawling out of waves in an intricate design.
