The bespectacled team Fighting Nerds is really speed-running the UFC right now with an amazing roster of fighters and show stopping performances inside the Octagon. Caio Borralho, Jean Silva, Carlos Prates and now Mauricio Ruffy, who—much like his teammates, has remained unbeaten in Dana White’s promotion since winning their contracts on Dana White’s Contender Series. ‘One Shot’, as he’s known, will open his 2025 account this weekend against lightweight stalwart King Green at UFC 313.
Since he’s had lesser fights in the UFC compared to Borralho, Silva, and Prates, Ruffy is not as well known a fighter. Still, the expectations are high, given the standards set by his teammates. And since we’ll get to see his career eventually unfold in the UFC, let’s take a look at the one called ‘One Shot’ outside the Octagon. Is he partnered or married? Let’s find out.

Mauricio Ruffy’s relationship status
Much like Caio Borralho, Mauricio Ruffy also has a pretty outgoing personality, but he tends to keep his personal life off the grid. So, we don’t really have any information on if he’s married, in a relationship, or is dating someone. Moreover, Ruffy has a very active social media presence, but in none of his posts does he mention or indicate anything about his relationship status.

Despite finding no trace of his possible better half, the information that is available is of his children. Yes, the lightweight star is a father of two children, and reporters claim that they were born ten months apart from each other. As of now, we don’t have any confirmation about their actual ages.
But back to the fighting side of things, there have been several fighters from around the world who come from very humble beginnings. Alex Pereira is an excellent example to substantiate that fact. But wasn’t the case with Mauricio Ruffy, whose life wasn’t similar to ‘Poatan’ at all. In fact, he had a comfortable time growing up. Let’s take a look at that front.

More about Mauricio Ruffy’s background
Mauricio Ruffy has a pretty comfortable life in Maceio, his birthplace, and was exposed to martial arts since a very young age. It all started with kickboxing, where he even left home to pursue a career in MMA, idolizing the likes of Wanderlei Silva and Mauricio Rua. While Ruffy’s uncle encouraged him to fight, his parents weren’t too thrilled about it and hoped that their son would soon focus on having a normal life, but that never happened.
“My parents thought I would change my mind when I grew older and give up on the idea of fighting professionally, but it only made me hungrier,” Mauricio Ruffy told MMA Fighting. “I decided to leave my hometown to go to Sao Paulo and become a professional fighter, but it wasn’t easy.” Leaving his hometown led him to take odd jobs, one of which involved him working as a bodyguard for a Chinese millionaire in Taiwan. However, the language barrier really irritated ‘One Shot’.

“I was his bodyguard and would go to a bunch of gyms there to train. He paid us good money and invested in our careers, but I couldn’t wait to get back to Brazil. It was really tough not actually engaging in any conversation for three months,” Ruffy added.
Well, his wish to become an UFC fighter has come true, and it’s time for him to continue his winning ways. What do you reckon, will Mauricio Ruffy stay unbeaten in the UFC after UFC 313? Drop your comments below.
