Matt Frevola knocked out Drew Dober in their lightweight matchup to close the show on the UFC 288 preliminary card. The bout lasted only one round but delivered as promised. With the win, Frevola extended his win streak to three fights and set the tone for his teammate Aljamain Sterling who faces Henry Cejudo later in the night.

Frevola came into the fight riding a two-fight win streak. After his 7-second loss to Terrance McKinney in 2021, ‘The Steamrolla’ gained some momentum with wins over Genaro Valdez and Ottman Azaitar in 2022. Now, he has kept the streak alive in 2023 after knocking out Drew Dober.

Dober came into the fight with more momentum than his opponent. The 34-year-old had won three of his last fights and looked to improve his streak to four wins. He had beaten Terrance McKinney, Rafael Alves, and Bobby Green in 2022 on his way to UFC 288. Hence, this loss was a tough pill to swallow for the Colorado native.

Fans react to Matt Frevola knocking out Drew Dober at UFC 288

The UFC 288 lightweight matchup between Frevola and Dober was a fan-favorite one for obvious reasons. And it did not disappoint. Frevola and Dober went at it from the starting bell looking to land their shots. While Frevola had more success initially, the commentators felt he should not have been swinging too much to land big shots.

While Dober occasionally had answers from Frevola’s onslaught, a perfectly placed shot in the very last minute put him down. Frevola followed Dober to the ground with a barrage of punches until referee Herb Dean had no choice but to step in and halt the proceedings.

Fans on the internet enjoyed the fight for as long as it lasted and gave their shoutouts to both fighters once it was done.
