One of the biggest attractions of the year is the return of former dual-champion Conor McGregor. After missing three years of his career because of a career-threatening injury, McGregor is finally ready to make a comeback. With just two fights left in his contract, fans will be desperate to see ‘Mystic Mac’ in action against his longtime rival Michael Chandler.

Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen seems super excited about the fight and has already picked his favorite. However, he thinks that the fight holds much more importance than just the money ($20M from ticket sales). He feels ‘Mystic Mac’ might be eyeing something big.

UFC insider feels Conor McGregor will go for the title next

35-year-old Conor McGregor is definitely at the twilight of his fantastic career. He currently has only two fights left in the contract and Sonnen feels he might get a title shot soon. In his recent YouTube video, ‘The American Gangster’ said, “You will have no record of any kind anywhere in history. If you cannot answer, why are they fighting? Guess what? These guys already got it. They have a 20-plus million-dollar gate waiting for them already. Doesn’t become official till the doors open. They already have a record.”

However, Sonnen feels the fight is not just about money and rivalry. It’s more than that. As a former champion, McGregor would love to wear that belt once again and if he wins, he might get a title shot. The 47-year-old added, “Why are you fighting? And it is a massive missing part to the story. I can only think like as big as this fight’s turning out to be that live gate. Then what would happen if we answered the question? What would happen? How big would it get? If we found a reason as to why they’re fighting. And what if that reason is if Conor is on a comeback toward a world championship? Would you buy it?”

For McGregor to get a title shot, he first needs to get past Chandler at UFC 303. Chandler has been waiting patiently for his fight with McGregor and has stepped up to his preparations. However, it seems that the Dubliner is also up for the challenge. The 35-year-old recently shared a clip of his sparring session on his social media, which gathered a lot of attention from the fans and ‘Uncle Sonnen’.

When Conor McGregor broke his shin in his last fight, most experts felt that his career was over. However, one can never predict what ‘The Notorious’ can do. Not only did he recover from the injury, he is now back to full fitness and ready for his next battle. The 35-year-old is super active on social media and constantly posts videos from his training sessions. He recently shared a video on Instagram where he caught his training partner with a left hook and impressed most, including Sonnen. The 47-year-old in one of his previous videos did point out that Chandler is the favorite for the fight.

However, he seemed impressed with ‘Mystic Mac’ too. Sonnen after seeing the video mentioned, “Conor looked good. That one setup, by the way, is a massive timing issue. You cannot have that timing unless you are actively in the gym. That’s good news for Team McGregor. The fact that he is getting that hard sparring, these things are very positive.” McGregor is, without a doubt, one of the finest strikers in the division. His records speak for himself and, as fans, we know he can end the fight with a single punch. However, it will be interesting to see if he can step up to the occasion after coming back from an injury.
