There are numerous things that people indulge in which often result in some dangerous consequences. From skateboarding to motorbike stunts, there is a wide range of sports and activities that can land you in a world of hurt. Combat sports might just top the list, but which one poses the most threat? Joe Rogan believes nothing compares to how dangerous Brazilian jiu-jitsu is, which he revealed recently.
Joe Rogan recently released the #2093 episode of his JRE podcast, featuring fellow comedians Bert Kreischer, Tom Segura, and Ari Shaffir. While discussing the dangers of indulging in an activity like skiing, the 56-year-old mentioned the most dangerous thing he’s ever done. Let’s see what Rogan had to say about that.

The JRE host, who’s also a commentator for the UFC, has a well-documented background in martial arts. He has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and also has experience in karate. Furthermore, Joe Rogan also has a BJJ black belt, which he revealed recently is the most dangerous thing he’s ever done in his life. He said, “Well, when I am training, I’m not doing jiu-jitsu right now, but that’s for sure the most [dangerous thing].”
Joe Rogan went on to explain that he considers BJJ the most dangerous form of combat sports because fighters are actively trying to incapacitate each other. Moreover, when he was practicing BJJ, he was always up against someone who was better than him at it.
“You’re practicing strangling each other and you’re doing it with people who are really good at strangling people… grabbing your legs and yanking them apart,” Rogan added. Even though Joe Rogan sees the dangers in jiu-jitsu, many people do not rate the Brazilian martial arts discipline, which includes the UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev.
Islam Makhachev’s problem with BJJ
In an interview with Daniel Cormier, the lightweight champion exposed the real problem he thinks jiu-jitsu fighters have. Makhachev claimed that BJJ fighters cannot keep fighting on their feet. They prefer getting on the mat to fight their opponents. Makhachev said, “All Jiu-Jitsu guys have same problem. They cannot stay in the top. They all go down. This is big, big problem for them.”

Islam Makhachev further went on to claim that BJJ fighters are not good at wrestling, although they are experts in grappling. In addition to that, the Dagestan native also claimed that it is hard to find a BJJ practitioner with good wrestling skills who has a black belt. “It would be very hard (to find) if Jiu-jitsu (black belt fighter) have good wrestling. But I don’t know people like this,” Makhachev added.

While Joe Rogan may not be at the same level of martial arts fighter as Islam Makhachev, he still knows enough fighting techniques to handle himself in a fight. Hence why someone like him calling BJJ dangerous has added some weight to how effective the Brazilian combat sports discipline can be. Furthermore, we also need to remember that jiu-jitsu reigned supreme during the initial years of the UFC.
