Jose Aldo vs. Mario Bautista is the third fight on the main card of UFC 307 after an injury forced the postponement of the Aljamain Sterling vs. Movsar Evloev bout to UFC 310 in December. The promotion announced the move during UFC Paris. Aldo, a former UFC and WEC featherweight champion, is looking for his second win since coming out of retirement earlier this year with a dominant win over Jonathan Martinez in Brazil. After being a high school wrestler for four years, Bautista decided to start training in Jiu-jitsu under the guidance of Jack Montgomery. This truly inspired his interest in mixed martial arts. As a result, he decided to move from his hometown and head toward Arizona to be a part of the MMA Lab. Under the tutelage of head coach John Crouch, Bautista earned his rank in the realm of MMA. In the process, he also trained with the likes of Sean O’Malley, Benson Henderson, and many other fighters.

Through his training in Arizona, Bautista started fighting professionally by taking part in promotions such as Tachi PF, Combate Americas, and the LFA. And such was his performance; he racked up a record of 6-0. So it was no wonder that the UFC soon came calling.

The UFC debut for Bautista also led to his first MMA loss. On January 19, 2019, at UFC Fight Night, the fighter lost the bout to Cory Sandhagen via a first round submission. He then went on a two-fight win streak by defeating Jin Soo Son and Miles Johns; however, another loss followed. This time it was Trevin Jones who proved too much to handle for Bautista. But that did not deter the Nevada native.
Instead of doubting his capabilities, the 31-year-old went on a six-fight win streak. He defeated Jay Perrin, Brian Kelleher, Benito Lopez, Guido Cannetti, Da’Mon Blackshear, and Ricky Simon to finally stand tall with a 14-2-0 record.
