Comedy is not a very difficult job. Getting on a stage and making people laugh for a period of time is much more difficult than it sounds. And it is even harder to do comedy live on television without any second takes and no scope for mistakes. This is part of the reason why Saturday Night Live is such a difficult gig.

Comedian Jim Breuer, appearing on episode 1621 of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, discussed his stint on SNL in the mid-nineties with the podcast host and comedian. Rogan shared his own experiences of working with comedians who had worked at the show.

Breuer, who started working at SNL in 1995, revealed to the successful podcast host that he did not even want to work at SNL “I didn’t want snl. Now you and I both know that nobody came out of it going that’s the greatest gig,” he said.

Rogan agreed, and told the New York resident how it was working with Phil Hartman, who left SNL in 1994. “They [comedians] come out like they were in a fight, absolutely. Like they just got out of a f***ing] bar fight. That’s how Phil Hartman was when I first started working with Phil Hartman in ’94.”

Breuer commented on the ruthless culture of SNL and revealed his substance abuse problems worsened while he worked there. “It’s dog-eat-dog and there’s no rhyme or reason it’s just like politics. And i start smoking an intense amount of pot just to numb myself” the 56-year-old said.
