2025 has started off with a bang for the UFC. After all, its first card went down well with fans as the UFC Fight Night: Amanda Ribas vs Mackenzie Dern 2 card saw some pretty great fights. The main event delivered, with the rematch between Ribas and Dern lived up to the hype. Dern, who lost their first fight in 2019, came back with a vengeance this time around even as Ribas gave her a pretty good fight in the first two rounds. Dern, who excels at grappling, got the better of their ground exchanges and finally caught Ribas in an armbar in the third round to win the fight.
For her scintillating, hard-fought victory, Mackenzie Dern won the $50k Performance of the Night Bonus along with her reported $500k+ paycheck for the fight. The co-main event between Santiago Ponzinibbio and Carlton Harris was also pretty interesting and competitive even as it saw a third-round stoppage like the main event. While Harris started well and won the first round courtesy of a knockdown, the second was incredibly close.
However, Ponzinibbio showed his warrior spirit in the third and caught Harris with a flurry of blows to send him to the canvas multiple times, until the referee jumped in and declared the fight ended via a standing TKO, giving the Argentinian a fantastic come from behind victory.
Another great come-from-behind victory came in the short albeit action-packed middleweight clash between Cesar Alameida and Abdul Razak Alhassan. Alhassan downed Almeida with a right shortly after the fight began, which made many feel that the Ghanaian would get the Brazilian out in short order. However, Alameida came back with a vengeance and caught his Ghanaian opponent with a huge left hook to end the fight.

However, perhaps the most memorable fight of the night was the Chris Curtis vs. Roman Kopylov clash. The two men had won one round a piece going into the last round. While the Russian looked well on his way to winning the third round and thus the fight, the final seconds of the clash made it part of UFC history.
In the dying second of the fight, Kopylov hit Curtis with a head kick, sending him crashing to the canvas. Kopylov was sure the fight was over, and so walked away with the referee waving off the fight with just one second remaining in the final round. However, since Curtis was not out cold and seemingly able to continue fighting, referee Mark Smith’s decision to end it has become a holy debated topic since the fight. For their hard-fought clash, Curtis and Kopylov walked away $50k richer as their fight was given the Fight of the Night bonus.
The previously undefeated featherweight prospect Austin Bashi made his UFC debut on the card. He was seen as one of the most promising young American MMA prospects in the entire world but disappointed on his debut as he lost a unanimous decision to Christian Rodriguez, who has almost made it a habit of snapping undefeated streaks.

The last fight of the prelim card between Jose Johnson and Felipe Bunes foreshadowed the result of the last fight of the main card. The action was pervasive even on the prelim card, as Marco Tulio, a big favorite coming into his middleweight clash with Ihor Poteria delivered big. Tulio dominated almost the entire three minutes of their clash and managed to knock out the Ukrainian brawler in the very first round.
Another exciting first-round finish came in the Preston Parsons vs. Jacobe Smith welterweight clash as Smith, who took the fight on eight days’ notice, found Parson’s chin with a massive blow in the very first round to end the fight in short order. The only other finish on the card came in the second fight of the prelim card where Fatima Kilne absolutely walloped Victoria Dudakova in a one-sided clash and finally knocked out the Russian with elbows from half-guard in the second round.
