Mackenzie Dern (13-4) is currently ranked no.7 in the UFC women’s strawweight division. Dern will be facing off against Amanda Lemos at UFC 298. This battle comes after her most recent upset against former UFC strawweight champion Jessica Andrade at UFC 295.
Clearly, she has found quite some success in the promotion but also gathered some losses in the journey. Even though Dern’s previous opponent, Jessica Andrade has been on a skid, the former UFC strawweight champion was always a dangerous contender for anyone in the division and it was proven when she defeated Dern making herself one of her 4 losses in her professional MMA career. Who else is on the list?

No.7 ranked strawweight in the world Mackenzie Dern has fought world-class fighters in the UFC since she joined the promotion garnering an 8-3 record in the promotion. Dern was on a seven-fight win streak in MMA and a two-fight win streak in the UFC.
However, it all changed when she faced her first loss against Amanda Ribas via a unanimous decision in October 2019. Her fight against Ribas was probably the first time in her career that she was dominated in that fashion. Amanda Ribas landed cleaner shots while also throwing more volume than Dern.
Ribas also surprisingly had more control time than Dern, which led to her winning in all three of the judges’ cards. The fight against Amanda Ribas lit a fire in her belly as the strawweight later went on a four-fight win streak. However, all good things must come to an end as the next fight wouldn’t go her way.
The win streak would eventually come to an end as Mackenzie lost to Marina Rodriguez at ‘UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Rodriguez’ in October of 2021. This fight against Marina Rodrigues would mimic the first loss, but only worse, as the striking numbers greatly favored Rodriguez. Dern lost the match via unanimous decision against Marina Rodriguez. But this wasn’t the end for her.

The American Brazilian won the next fight against Tecia Torres via a close split decision that could’ve gone either way and lost the one following after the fight against Yan Xiaonan in a close majority decision. She would then face Angela Hill defeating her via a unanimous decision.
