On the eve of the US Presidential Elections, after staying “on the sidelines” throughout the campaigns, Joe Rogan finally made his endorsement. When he announced who he’d be backing (not that it came as a surprise), the UFC color commentator credited Elon Musk. But it turns out there’s more to the picture… and former vice presidential candidate Tim Walz had a lot to do with it.
On November 5, the 57-year-old released a Joe Rogan Experience episode featuring the Tesla CEO. Promoting it on the Musk-owned X, the podcaster wrote, “The great and powerful @elonmusk. If it wasn’t for him, we’d be f–ked. He makes what I think is the most compelling case for Trump you’ll hear, and I agree with him every step of the way.” Then came the endorsement: “For the record, yes, that’s an endorsement of Trump. Enjoy the podcast.”
At the time, now-President-elect Donald Trump was on stage in Pittsburgh for his penultimate rally. So, when he found out that he’d officially received Rogan’s backing, Trump announced, “It just came over the wires that Joe Rogan just endorsed me, is that great. Thank you, Joe. That’s so nice. And he doesn’t do that, he doesn’t do that stuff.” And it’s true, at least from what Joe Rogan admitted on his podcast earlier this week – he tried to stay away from the elections.

The JRE host said, “I wanted to stay out of the presidential election s–t because it’s so gross. I felt like I had to. I felt like this is so nuts.” Why so? Primarily because of Tim Walz’s false statements about his military service and the timing of his visit to Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, which inspired him to root for the Republican candidate instead. Rogan continued, “When that Tim Walz guy… it’s so nuts that guy was going to be the vice president. You’re telling me this whole thing is fake, then. You’re telling me that you don’t care if someone is a liar?
“You don’t care if they lie about their military rank? Where they served? You don’t care if they lie about being an assistant—you don’t care if they lie about Tiananmen Square?” Rogan continued. The commentator was referring to Walz, who never saw action while serving in the National Guard, claiming during a campaign stop years ago that he carried weapons into wars. A claim that has since been debunked. The former vice presidential candidate also claimed to have been in Hong Kong “when Tiananmen happened” in the spring of 1989.
The Tiananmen Square protests were student-led demonstrations against inflation and corruption that turned violent and deadly when the Chinese government cracked down on the protestors. Walz did go to Hong Kong that year, he only reached the then-British colony in August, while the protests were from April to June. When pressured to address these claims during the VP debate earlier this year, Walz replied, “I’m a knucklehead at times. Many times, I will talk a lot. I will get caught up in the rhetoric.” But this didn’t sit right with Joe Rogan.

The commentator added, “There’s too many things, this is so crazy. You would get fired if you were an assistant manager at a f—ing oil change company.” Tim Walz’s comments may not have gone down well with Joe Rogan. But ironically, Rogan’s revelation didn’t go down well with fans on Reddit, considering he based his endorsement of Trump on the lies Walz said. That was because the President-elect’s campaign wasn’t bereft of lies, either.

As soon as fans got to hear the comments made by Joe Rogan, they were quick to call out the JRE host. Several of them couldn’t believe that the reason Rogan endorsed Donald Trump was just because he had issues with the vice presidential nominee. As a result, many who believed the UFC commentator would be making rational decisions soon lost the respect they had for Rogan. They wrote in the comments, “I have lost so much respect for this guy,” “This take is so insane,” and “What happened to this dude? His brain is literally broken.”
Some other users believed that Rogan might’ve actually had a personal bias towards Trump; however, he is now trying to hide that from the public by making such bizarre claims. It’s no new fact that the JRE host is really good friends with Elon Musk and now might’ve gotten much friendlier with Donald Trump as well. “It’s almost like it’s a lie and he got involved for personal reasons and didn’t have a good excuse to make it seem nonpartisan.”
A user suggested that rather than speaking against Walz, Rogan simply could’ve admitted his personal bias instead. “Can’t he just be like the millions of other Trump voters and say he supports his policies lol?” But while Walz did lie on his campaign, so did Donald Trump. One of the most infamous moments from this campaign was Trump believing in and spreading the bizarre claim that Haitian immigrants were eating cats and dogs from their neighborhoods – a rumor being spread by the candidate despite it being debunked by multiple platforms.

As a result, many fans called Rogan out for believing the billionaire does not lie. They wrote comments such as, “Is he f*****g serious? I really hate whataboutism, but he could literally do 10 straight podcasts solely covering Trump lies and barely scratch the surface” and “Endorsing Donald Trump because you can’t stand a liar is objectively the funniest way to announce how absolutely clueless you are to the entire world.”
