PewDiePie’s latest video is not just an attack on podcasts as a whole, but on Joe Rogan specifically, as he called out the UFC commentator for being “very dumb”. In a video titled, ‘Podcasts have gone too far’, that released on November 27, the YouTuber joked about how everyone on the internet seems to have a podcast now.
The video began with the Swedish content creator asking, “Can guess how many podcasts there is in the world? TOO MANY. That’s what it is. TOO MANY.” He then answered his own question: “There’s 3.2 million podcasts in case anyone’s wondering. Your grandma’s got a podcast. Your janitor’s got a podcast.”
Felix then went onto discuss the world’s number one podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Talking about how these audio-based programs have been a big contributor to change, he said, “Podcasts are becoming more of a…it’s affecting society, politics. I don’t know if you saw the man [Donald Trump] went on Joe Rogan. [The video] got 51 million views. Jesus! Crazy!”

And then came the statement that would bring PewDiePie immense attention (but not in a good way!).
“Have you listened to Joe Rogan? I had this Epiphany. I’m like, ‘Oh, he’s like the biggest podcast.’ I never actually listened to him. So I listened to an episode. I’m like, ‘Oh, he’s actually respectfully very dumb.” Taking it up a notch, the 35-year-old then went on to show clips where the JRE host didn’t quite catch up with some jokes that were made on the show. And the final blow? Well, read it for yourself.
“He brings in a lot of people that are smart and I think that’s why his podcast is interesting. It’s very guest based, right?…It’s clearly working for him, but it also shows just how dumb he is. I saw some meme where it kind of just showed him as a caveman, and then he brings in a scientist and is like, ‘You explain fire now; explain how he works,’ and that’s kind of it summarized [his podcast],” he said to his co-host.The last nail in the coffin, (or perhaps what many would call the start of PewDiePie’s bad days) was when JRE’s official X handle went ahead and shared a news article from Dexerto, with the caption, “PewDiePie calls Joe Rogan “dumb” and says podcasts have “gone too far” – Dexerto”

Well, it surely looks like Kjellberg doesn’t hold Rogan in high regard. However, that’s not the same when it comes to Rogan’s fans. JRE listeners often praise Joe Rogan for providing them with guests who surely have a lot of knowledge to give out. So, as expected, the call-out definitely didn’t go well with Rogan’s die-hard fans…
Fans rally against the Swedish YouTuber

As soon as PewDiePie’s clip hit the internet, it went viral in no time. After all, one of the biggest YouTubers in the world—with a subscriber count of a staggering 110 million—was calling out the biggest podcaster on the planet. JRE fans were not huge fans of the way Felix Kjellberg talked about their favorite UFC commentator. Especially after Joe Rogan had defended PewDiePie back in 2017 after the Wall Street Journal claimed that the Swedish YouTuber was spreading anti-Semitism through jokes.
The podcaster had said, “How did they get away with doing that? How did they get—how come no one from the Wall Street Journal sat them down and said, ‘Well listen, this is definitely not him saying that. You’re going to take something out of context…’. You took it out of context and did exactly what he’s saying you shouldn’t do, that’s kind of crazy.” So now that PewDiePie took a shot at Rogan, fans were quick to claim that the reason PewDiePie was talking trash about Rogan was because he was losing his subscribers and relevancy.
One X user wrote in the comments, “Awww, is someone losing all his followers because they grew up?”, while another opined, “PewDiePie is just trying to be relevant again.”

One fan even went on to ask, “Does anyone care about PewDiePie? Like… is he still doing anything?” Another set of users decided to call out PewDiePie for his choice of name instead. For a guy called PewDiePie, fans found it amusing that he was the one who was taking shots at people and calling them dumb.
They said things like, “Coming from a guy named PewDiePie… that carries a lot of weight” and “Did anyone tell him he’s a grown man called Pewdiepie?” One claimed that the Swedish YouTuber was just jealous of the fact that Rogan is still successful and relevant, while PewDiePie is slowly fading out. “Pewds is salty; Joe’s still killin’ it.” Well, it surely looks like fans have chosen their pick.
