Is Jon Jones' reign in jeopardy with Miocic eyeing his weaknesses?

The fight between Jon Jones and  Stipe Miocic has been a highly anticipated matchup by the UFC fans. The duo was meant to fight at UFC 295 but unfortunately due to an injury, ‘Bones’  had to withdraw from the fight. Dana White is already hyping up the heavyweight champion and said that Jones is the best Pound 4 Pound fighter. However, this does not seem to be phasing  Miocic in any way.

The two-time champion not only declared that he was not holding anyone back from fighting, probably insinuating Tom Aspinall, but now he has also given a challenge to his possible contender Jones.

CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri recently interviewed Miocic in SHAKMMA and he gave an update about UFC 309 and the possible fight with Jon Jones. He has been vocal that the only guy he wants to fight with is ‘Bones.’ Along with that he also pointed out some drawbacks of this matchup.

He said, “You know, I think just-style make matchups and you know I have a style that doesn’t match well with his style.” He also pointed out the good points of his opponent when he was fighting. He said that Jones has a good sense of distance along with splendid leg kicks. However, Miocic said that he had a tactical sense of knowing when to make a fight into a brawl.

Miocic continued, “I think it depends on who does what they want. You know, unfortunately, I don’t like being told what to do. I’m gonna do what I want.”

Miocic is certainly confident in his fighting style and even mentions that combat is in his DNA. He followed that with compliments for his coaches and training, who built him up and as he believed, would make him invincible. Miocic had more to say about this fight and even Tom Aspinall.

Miocic gives more updates

In the same interview, ‘The Silencer’ gave more updates about the fight and his opinions on Tom Aspinall. Mahjouri pointed out how Miocic’s interactions with Jones were more polite than what was going on between Jones and Aspinall.

Miocic replied that he was not taking any opportunities away from ‘Honey Badger’. His only goal was to get the heavyweight title and the only way to do that was to fight Jones. He said, “Yeah, I mean, I get it. And I mean, I feel the same way but I’m not taking any way from him. The UFC can do what they want. It is what it is. There’s only one guy I want to fight and that’s Jon Jones but at the same time, the UFC can pick who they want to fight.”

He was also not satisfied with how things turned out with his chosen opponent and how the fight was very uncertain at one point, criticizing the fans who were saying that he was holding up Tom Aspinall from fighting. Miocic declared that he had given up fights against Jones before as well and he was not holding up anyone in the division. Finally, the dates seem to be confirmed and it is 9th November in New York.
