Alex Pereira is called ‘Poatan’ or ‘Hands of Stone’ because of the power he possesses. He is known to push opponents back with even shots to their guard, as he did against Israel Adesanya. Another popular trait that UFC fans have pointed out to him is his propensity to stay stone-faced at nearly all times.

After the Brazilian shook up the UFC world with his surprise victory over ‘Izzy’ at UFC 287, his celebration consisted of taking a lap around the octagon, with his trademark expression of studied indifference. But, it seems, he does have a good sense of humor behind his poker face.

Alex Pereira posted a video of himself from Europa-Park in Germany featuring a very special guest- UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (or rather his lookalike). ‘Poatan’ introduced him as the real Volk in a tongue-in-cheek manner with an uncharacteristic smile on his face.

“Alright guys i’m here at Europa-Park. Look who I found here – Volkanoski. Look at this. I met him here in Germany, at the park,” the former middleweight champion said as he moved the camera toward a short, pale, bald guy. The fake ‘Volk’ agreed with Pereira and said “you find me here in the park”.

It is nice to see the almost always serious Brazilian in good spirits and enjoying himself on a well-deserved vacation in Germany. Especially after his recent loss to Israel Adesanya, and hard-fought victory over the Polish Jan Blachowicz in his light heavyweight division debut at UFC 291. Poatan isn’t done yet and holds lofty ambitions for his future.

Alex Pereira to fight for the light heavyweight title

Pereira is likely to fight for the vacant light heavyweight title by the end of the year. Pereira himself has seemingly confirmed this. “It was agreed that this was going to be a title elimination fight… The UFC is happy with my performance, the crowd likes my fights. I’m confident that I’ll be fighting for the belt by the end of the year,” Pereira said through a translator. ‘Poatan’ will probably face the Czech Jiri Prochazka for the title. Prochazka is the former lightweight champion who had vacated the title to recover from an injury. ‘Poatan’ has also been vocal about his intention of a trilogy fight with Adesanya after his light heavyweight title.

Pereira and Volkanovski are two of the most exciting fighters in the UFC. The latter moved up a weight class to give lightweight champion Islam Makhachev hell for five rounds. Fans were impressed by the level of grappling that ‘Volk’ displayed in the fight against an excellent wrestler in Makhachev. Who do you think Pereira should fight for the light heavyweight crown?
