In the podcast, Rogan pointed out a relation between the decline in the aesthetic design of the Ford Mustang and the passage of the Controlled Substances Act in 1970, which effectively prohibited the use of psychedelics.
He compared the looks of a 1969 Ford Mustang with a 1980 Ford Mustang. According to him, the looks and design of the 1969 model were way better. Looking at the 1980 model, he said – “This is just disgusting. Look at that piece of sh*t.”
Interestingly, it was around the same time a federal act banning psychedelic substances was introduced.
“(Comparing the two cars) The difference is so stark, it’s amazing. And it is so clear that the time period directly correlates with the sweeping psychedelics acts of 1970, where they stopped people from using these things. They made them forbidden and dangerous.”
