The sport of mixed martial arts entails a high risk of life-threatening injuries. While most combat sports share this risk, the unpredictable and wild nature of MMA makes it particularly dangerous. Among the various injuries that fighters can sustain, leg breaks are certainly one of the most brutal. These injuries have the potential to end a fighter’s career, as seen with some of the biggest names in the UFC. Fighters such as Anderson Silva, Chris Weidman, and Conor McGregor have experienced leg injuries.
When a fighter’s leg is compromised, it becomes a looming threat if they choose to continue competing. All three fighters mentioned previously have this in common, as they didn’t let the injury stop them from getting back into action. And after nearly two years of recovery following his leg break at UFC 261, Weidman is now set to make a comeback to the fight game, much like Anderson Silva did in the past.

They’re trying to hold it into place as they get me on a stretcher and all this c*ap, and, you know, the bones are moving around. And the pain, I can’t even explain the pain. The pain was the worst thing I could ever imagine… I kept begging them to give me pain pills. ‘Give me something quick. Put me to sleep. Get me on painkillers. Knock me out. I cannot deal with this.”
