Few fighters have been as hyped as Khamzat Chimaev. The middleweight, started his career mauling all his opponents in one-sided fights, until his fight against welterweight contender Gilbert Burns, who took him to the judges’ scorecard for the first time in his career.

Even Dana White revealed in an interview earlier this year that Chimaev was the most popular fighter in the UFC after Conor McGregor. And, it seems, to cash in on the Swedish national’s popularity fellow UFC fighter, the light heavyweight Johnny Walker paid homage to Chimaev in a unique and amusing way.

A picture of the Brazilian Johnny Walker has surfaced. It shows him next to a life-sized cardboard cutout of Chimaev. Walker is wearing the same red shorts to resemble the Swedish national. The Brazilian is also giving Chimaev’s signature wide-eyed yell to seem similar to the latter.

Walker is set to face #2 ranked light heavyweight Magomed Ankalev at UFC 294 on October 21 in Abu Dhabi, according to reports, although an official announcement has not been made by the UFC. This would give him a chance to redeem himself for his performance against Anthony Smith, which, though the Brazilian won, he was criticized by UFC boss Dana White for failing to “wow anybody”.

Fans react to the Walker impersonating Chimaev

A post asking fans if Walker and Chimaev look similar elicited responses from the fans in the comments section. Here is what they had to say.

One fan felt they did not resemble each other as Walker was taller than the Chechen:

“they do not at all  if johnny was standing straight up he would be towering”

Another agreed with the sentiment:

“Walker is one of the biggest light heavy’s so he might be closer in size to some of the other guys. But not him”

Another user opined that Walker was huge compared to Chimaev:

“Johnny Walker is like a Titan, Jesus Christ”

One fan wrote that Chimaev would probably lose in his next few fights, crashing his hype train:

“Am I crazy in saying I don’t think khamzat will live up to his hype and might actually lose in his next fight or 2”

Another pointed out that Walker was hunched over, thus the illusion:

“Johnny is also hunched over lol. Johnny is huge. Idk what yall are seeing”

Clearly, fans did not find the two to be similar looking, despite the Brazilian’s best efforts. And as Chimaev gears up to co-headline UFC 294 against Paulo Costa, and Walker reportedly will face Ankalev in the same event, it would be interesting to see whether their performances against strong opponents would be similar.
