According to earlier reports, ‘The Highlight’ informed MMA reporter Aaron Bronsteter that he wanted to face Dustin Poirier. Gaethje also mentioned that he is considering the month of August or September to return to the octagon. However, he also mentioned that he is willing to fight at UFC 289, which will take place on the 10th of June, 2023.

Many people think this fight makes sense because of the history both fighters share with each other. Even Dustin Poirier mentioned a few days ago that he would consider fighting Justin Gaethje if presented with the opportunity.

‘The Highlight’ has another option in mind

Justin Gaethje appeared in an interview with TMZ as he spoke about his intentions to fight ‘The Diamond’ and another option he thinks makes sense. He said, “I think that’s the obvious choice, Dustin [Poirier]. He’s sitting at number 2 right now. I gave the new guys a chance, and I proved that I am elite.” He added, “I need to fight elite fighters to fight for a belt. I think Dustin’s the obvious choice.”

Justin Gaethje also mentioned another option he has in mind. He said, “I think the loser of [Beneil] Dariush and Charles Oliveira is also an option, but outside of those two, I do not see an option.” He also considers facing either Beneil Dariush or former opponent Charles Oliveira as potential opponents as well.
