Alexander Volkanovski’s third title defense is already in jeopardy as Max Holloway was forced to withdraw from the UFC 272 scrap after aggravating a prior injury. However, the show never stops as Alexander Volkanovski has found a replacement for the former UFC featherweight champion.
The 145-pounds champion took to Twitter to call out featherweight #4 Chan Sung Jung as a replacement for ‘Blessed’. Alexander Volkanovski tweeted, “@KoreanZombieMMA Let’s do this!! #UFC272”

This matchup actually makes sense as everyone else in the top 5 at featherweight has been sent packing by either Volkanovski or Holloway.
‘Blessed’ defeated Rodriguez in their thrilling bout at UFC Fight Night in November; Volkanovski thwarted #2, Brian Ortega, at UFC 266 in what went down as the greatest UFC fight of the year.

Hence, at present, Chan Sung Jung is the only man in the top 5 who hasn’t faced either ‘Blessed‘ or Volkanovski. Notably, ‘The Korean Zombie’ (17-6) is coming off a win in his last outing in June. Hence, he would be extremely fresh and can easily slot into the March 5 date.

Later, Helwani announced the same through his Substack, “Alex Volkanovski and Chan Sung Jung have both verbally agreed to fight each other on March 5, 2022, sources say…Late Thursday, Volkanovski’s team was officially told Holloway was out. It’s unclear at this time how long he’s out for but it might be a while, I’m told.”
“Straight away, Volkanovski and his team focused on Jung. That’s who they want. They’ve wanted him for two years,” Helwani continued.
