Leon Edwards is still the undisputed UFC welterweight champion after his impressive performance last night. “Rocky” showcased remarkable restraint, resilience, and composure in his dominant showing against Colby Covington. Covington’s comments about Edwards’ deceased father served as a trigger point for the fighter, but he kept his cool and fought like a champion to secure the win. As the spotlight remains on the Birmingham man, fans took notice of his work outside the Octagon and are applauding him for it.

At the tender age of 13, Edwards matured far beyond his years after his father died in gang-related violence. Now that Edwards has grown up, he has taken it upon himself to ensure that no one else experiences the same pain that he and his family endured.

When “Rocky” was 13, tragedy struck as his father lost his life in a nightclub in ͏2004. The heartbreaking incident occurred just four years after their family had relocated from ͏Jamaica. Leon shared that his father’s life was cut short in a fatal shooting, the result of a supposed dispute over money. Edwards shared a very close relationship with his father and his demise left him broken.

The incident had Edwards thinking about turning to the same life but for his mother who enrolled him in an MMA gym when he was 16. He took a liking to the sport and it kept him away from street crimes. Now, Edwards is giving back to his community by starting gyms that keep the youth away from a life of crime.

A BBC report of the same recently found its way to Reddit. Fans in the comment section were pleased with Edwards, recognizing him as a real champion of the people. Per the description of the clip, he focused these gyms on dangerous areas known for knife crime, to keep the children there away from it.

Young participants can be seen explaining how Edwards is focusing on keeping them away from a dangerous life. They also regard him as a good coach who instills values of discipline in them. The fans on Reddit could not help but pat ‘Rocky’ on the back with their comments.
