UFC’s welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is definitely one of the more dominant fighters in the world. His skill and fight IQ is absolutely unmatched in the octagon. As of November 2021, Usman stands first in the UFC Men’s pound for pound rankings.

Many consider Usman to be in the Greatest Of All Time category due to his consistent performances. The Nigerian Nightmare is one win away from beating Anderson Silva’s record of having the most consecutive wins in the promotion.

After retaining his championship title last weekend against Colby Covington, a lot of people are wondering who’s next for the champion. Colby was the only opponent in Kamaru’s entire career that actually gave him some tough competition in their first fight. However, in the rematch, Usman simply outclassed Covington in every aspect of the fight.

Usman said, “You know my attention was all to that guy (Chimaev). But now looking at the division there’s some match-ups there. Leon Edwards goes out and gets the job done. I mean, and as he did, as this rivalry is with Masvidal. He goes out there and starts Masvidal. Leon Edwards is a bonafide star. Like that’s a fight that has to happen. He hasn’t lost since he fought me the first time, and that’s what people are going to want to see.

“Also, you can’t forget Vicente Luque. Vicente, yeah, I mean he’s as battle-tested as anybody. He’s as fun of a fighter as anybody. The way that I fight now and where I’m at, Vicente Luque is another exciting prospect. That’s a fight that exciting contender I should say. That’s another fight that could potentially take place so you know. I’m just waiting for these guys to really step up, you know. These guys got to step up and show the world that hey, I’m that next guy.”

As of now, Leon Edwards seems like a more deserving contender for the welterweight title, compared to Vicente Luque. Edwards is also ranked above Luque in the UFC’s welterweight contender rankings. He is also currently on a nine fight win streak.
