Leon Edwards‘ plans to fight for a title have been halted after a lackluster performance at UFC London! The former welterweight champion succumbed to a submission for the first time in his entire MMA career, with Sean Brady becoming the first fighter to submit ‘Rocky’. However, fellow 170-pounder Joaquin Buckley believes Edwards isn’t the only one to blame because his coaches for their unproductive corner work.

Before his first 2025 fight, Leon Edwards claimed to be looking for a finish, or, at least, a dominant showing to make his case for a title shot, but it was the other way around during Fight Night. ‘Rocky’ was dominated comprehensively, but could he have done something different? Well, Edwards is known for pulling rabbits out of his hat during the closing stages of the fight, as he did in UFC 278.

However, he had his coach Dave Lovell that time, who gave ‘Rocky’ an inspiring speech for him to claim the title with a knockout defeat in that fight. While the chances of history repeating itself were pretty slim, it appeared that all of Leon Edwards’ four coaches couldn’t inspire him in this fight against Sean Brady, prompting Joaquin Buckley to question the former champion’s team. “Leon corner is trash to many people talking and not saying s— important,” ‘New Mansa’ tweeted in the aftermath of UFC London.

Leon Edwards has ‘motivational speakers’ as coaches, fans claim

Some fans pointed out Leon Edwards‘ coaches remained unbothered during the first half of the fight. Their approach to the matchup seemed casual before Sean Brady really got ‘Rocky’ in trouble. On that note, one fan commented, Before Brady took him down in the 4th you can literally see his corner not saying anything.” Some of them went on to declare Leon Edwards as having to devise his own tactics, seeing that his team didn’t fit the mold at UFC London. They just motivational speakers, Leon do all the work.”

But coming back to his performance, what do you think happened there? Some fans question Leon Edwards ‘lack of urgency’ as he found himself in tough positions throughout the matchup. Leon just looks so bad, the urgency ain’t there,” a user added on X. On the other hand, questions are being raised about Edwards’ mental condition heading into the fight. I think Leon has a lack of confidence, bro was so off.”

There were a lot of fans cheering their own in London, as they made a lot of noise for Leon Edwards. But the one person whose noise seems to have ticked off one fan appears to be one of ‘Rocky’s coaches, and judging by his description, it seems like the fan is talking about Dave Lovell. I thought the same. Especially that old dude, screaming like he’s in a DJ khaled song.” Moreover, this fan found support with another responding, I was thinking the same,” there was one X user who appeared to have had enough of Leon Edwards. In fact, that fan suggested that Joaquin Bucklet should fight ‘Rocky’ and make him call it a career. Yo retire leon 4 us.”
