The 2022 FIFA World Cup is drawing to a close and the excitement could not be higher. Lionel Messi‘s Argentina battered Croatia in the semi-finals yesterday to advance to the finals on Sunday. Croatia’s exit also meant that legendary midfielder Luka Modric‘s final world cup run had ended in the semis. UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov shared a message for the Real Madrid midfield maestro following his world cup exit. The former champion had also previously shared his excitement for the match via his Instagram story.

Khabib Nurmagomedov sends a message of appreciation to Modric
Khabib Nurmagomedov is a staunch supporter of the Spanish soccer giants, Real Madrid. He has admitted to being a “big fan” of Los Blancos and is good friends with soccer legend and former Madrid marquee Cristiano Ronaldo. Therefore, it is unsurprising that Nurmagomedov sent a message to a club legend following a disappointing end to his world cup run.
In his Instagram story, “The Eagle” shared a picture of Modric from a post by prominent soccer journalist Fabrizio Romano. He tagged Modric and wrote “Legend” in his message of appreciation.

As a Madridista, it may have been disappointing for Nurmagomedov to see a club legend being knocked out in such a dominant fashion by their biggest rival’s most legendary player. It was Messi who opened the floodgates by scoring a penalty kick shortly after the half-hour mark.
Nurmagomedov still has favorites at the World Cup
Besides being a Madrid fan, Nurmagomedov also supports French stars Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe. The Dagestani congratulated Benzema on winning the Ballon D’Or, saying he deserved it. Back in 2020, Nurmagomedov openly rallied against Messi’s Barcelona in their game against French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappe, who scored two goals to send Messi and co. out of the UEFA Champions League, sent his signed shirt from the game to Nurmagomedov. Post the match, the 29-0 veteran shared how sweet it was to see Barcelona‘s exit from the tournament.
