It’s been quite a while since the  #3 ranked welterweight fighter, Khamzat Chimaev, is desperately waiting for his next bout. However, the UFC is lagging behind in finding an opponent for the undefeated fighter. With a record of twelve victories and no losses, Borz indeed has the right to have the toughest opponent. However, now the UFC star himself has decided to find a worthy opponent that can take him to the title bout. On Wednesday, ‘Borz’ called out the former UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker, to fight against him.

He took to his social media handle and wrote “good guy vs. bad guy let’s make it happen”. At the moment, they both lack an opponent. Hence, Chimaev calculated it to be the perfect option. However, the former UFC two-division champion, Henry Cejudo has a strong take on the bout; he believes Chimaev can never triumph against Whittaker.

In the YouTube channel, Helen Yee Sports, Helen Yee asked the former UFC double champion, Henry Cejudo, about his thoughts on a bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Robert Whittaker. Cejudo said, “Kudos to Khamzat, I don’t think he [Khamzat Chimaev] will win that fight. I really don’t because Whittaker is no joke, man. I think Whittaker will get up. He’s a bigger man too and he could strike. You know you don’t need to be a wrestler to really understand defense, you just need to defend and get back up and think what as Robert Whittaker keeps on his feet uh Chimaev gonna be in trouble.

‘The Messenger’ further added how it was a bad choice of opponent selection on Chimaev’s part. According to him, his fight against Whittaker will result in him missing the chance of a title bout. In the conversation, Cejudo added, “We’ll see if it’s a five-round fight if I was Khamzat I wanted more of a probability of actually winning. I’ll make it into a three-round fight and maybe he could be the co-main event for our fight on May 6. That’s what I would do if I was Khamzat, but if he wants a championship fight, bro good luck.

Borz on Robert Whittaker after UFC 279

Chimaev’s recent callout of Whittaker is surprising because he didn’t seem so interested in facing the middleweight fighter earlier. During the post-fight press conference of UFC 279, Chimaev claimed he was not interested in fighting the “good guy,” as per ‘MMA Fighting’. The only desire the UFC star expressed was to train with Whittaker. The sudden shift in his change of mind can be simply his impatience to reach the title. With Cejudo’s recent comments, Chimaev’s path becomes all the more concerning.
