The split decision by the judges shocked the MMA community as it was evident that Sean Strickland was in a dominant position over the Brazilian sensation. MMA pundits even gave the victory to Strickland by way of unanimous decision but the official decision came as a shock. This started a debate within the community. Sean Strickland was taken aback by the decision. He blamed himself for not being able to finish the fight quickly.

At the UFC 302 post-fight presser, Dana White was asked about his opinion on the error in judging by the team for the Strickland vs. Costa match and the UFC supremo came all guns blazing upon the judgment. “I think that was insane. That guy should never ref in a big fight again. They should kick him back down to the minor leagues and let him work on his judging,” said White.

He added, “It’s unbelievable. I mean, how anybody who isn’t an absolute lunatic could call that fight a split decision, I don’t even know what to say to that. It’s insane. That guy shouldn’t be judging big fights.”

Well, such marginal errors by the judges have ruined many matches, and the UFC has been having problems with the judges for quite some time now. However, the situation has become much worse and even Joe Rogan had to come forward to address the plight of the fighters.

The time when Joe Rogan went off on the judges

Joe Rogan has always advocated against bogus judging. While having a conversation with the author of ‘The Grey Man’ on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, episode #1942, the podcaster discussed the faulty system of judging that has been plaguing the sport. Since the inception of the UFC, the ghost of faulty judging has always hindered the promotion and Rogan couldn’t help but talk about this.

“Maybe we should crowdsource the scoring instead of having these people that are professional judges. Because some of them, they get it so wrong.“And some scoring is so- You’ll see like 49-47, 49-47. And then you’ll see one, that is just like, 50-45… Like, how are you watching the same fight? You’re so different than everyone else that scored it.” said Rogan.

Well, the podcast happened a year ago but Rogan’s assessment still holds truth on today’s scenario as the Sean Strickland vs. Paulo Costa match was the epitome of faulty decision. What’s your opinion on the situation? Will Dana White make any changes in the future or will the UFC carry on with its operations? State your thoughts in the comments below.
