Khamzat Chimaev is back in the news again after lying low for a while following his win at UFC 279 last year in September. While rumors about his next fight and opponent have been constant, it appears that the Chechen has finally found a name that could turn out to be the biggest challenge in his career so far.

Earlier, news of a fight between him and Paulo Costa started doing the rounds of multiple media outlets and was even seemingly confirmed by UFC legend Chael Sonnen in an appearance on ‘The MMA Hour’. Following these developments, the 28-year-old came out with a fresh tweet targeting ‘Borrachinha’, even dubbing him a “coward” in the process.

Chimaev has been pretty much on a Twitter rampage over the past few days and has not spared any of the top contenders in the welterweight division in his online call-outs. While there is also news of him moving up to 185 lbs, a fight at welterweight still remains a possibility considering his ranking in the weight class.

Despite his rankings, if his issues with weight cutting are taken into account, a move up does appear to be the popular consensus amongst fans and analysts alike. Considering that, it’s not too surprising that a fight with Costa has been rumored to be in the works.

Following the latest developments on the rumored fight, Chimaev’s tweet adds more fuel to the hype surrounding it. Taking a dig at the Brazilian, ‘Borz’ wrote, “Run coward run”, even tagging Costa in the tweet.

Is Chimaev, through this tweet, implying that Costa refused to accept the fight? Or is it just his way of taking a jibe at the Brazilian before they ultimately face each other? Whatever it may be, there’s no denying that a fight between these two is definitely a mouth-watering prospect.

Fight rumored to take place in Abu Dhabi

As stated by Chael Sonnen earlier, the fight between the duo is expected to go down a few months down the line in Abu Dhabi. As per the UFC legend, the event will be headlined by Islam Makhachev, while Chimaev and Costa make up the co-main bout.

“Khamzat is going to fight Paulo Costa. They’ve even got a date. They’re going to go to Abu Dhabi. That’s a co-main event…They’ll be there for three rounds instead of five. Islam on top of the bill.” he claimed.
