Khamzat Chimaev has been slammed hard for dodging a fight, he himself had called out and hyped. UFC veteran Chael Sonnen lashed out at him for not stepping up to fight his opponent. Although there were no official cancels, Chimaev did not confirm stepping up for his fight, either. This left the UFC fans unsatisfied. After the Welterweight fight between Geoff Neal and Shavkat Rakhmonov was canceled, people started speculating that Rakhmonov would go on to fight Chimaev. And even though the Swedish-Russian fighter ended up calling out Rakhmonov, he did not confirm anything, and this ended up in a canceled bout.

In a recent video, Sonnen lashed out at Khamzat Chimaev. He ranted out in front of his audience about how it’s, “disappointing, but it’s common”. While saying so, he pointed out the fact that no Welterweight fighter came forward to save the bout for Rakhmonov.

Chael Sonnen’s disappointment with Khamzat Chimaev

The controversial Chech fighter is not new to disappointing fans. He has been doing so ever since he started hanging out with the dictator of Chechnya. However, he has now affected the UFC legend Sonnen as well. The UFC legend went ahead to vent. “He was talking about Chimaev… The 85-pounder that called him out… Rakhmonov accepted it. Disappointed at the turn UFC fighters have taken by avoiding this fight, Sonnen also went ahead to appreciate Rakhmonov’s dedication. “But he (Rakhmonov) really showed something here. He really showed some interest, but so did the rest of the 70-pounders. So did the rest of the Welterweights,” Sonnen added.

It is pretty evident that the ex-UFC champion does not understand why Chimaev decided to dodge this fight. Could it possibly be out of fear?

‘Borz’ did not take up the fight with his Welterweight rival. He did not have any fights or injuries prevalent to put the blame on. Nor did Chimaev just ignore a vacant fight of a fellow fighter in need, but some say that he backed out from fear. After all, Shavkat Rakhmonov’s record is impeccable.

Chael Sonnen adds into the story by saying, “to think this is going to be their (Welterweights) year and they’re going to get their opportunity and this is going to be their time to shine. They had it. Came to you in the first week of the first month of the new year and you didn’t take it. That’s a reality.”
