After being away from the octagon for over six months, the undefeated welterweight sensation Khamzat Chimaev has been itching to get back into action. However, the frustration of the lack of opponents willing to take him on has been weighing on the Swedish fighter. But it seems like the wait is finally over for ‘Borz’, as UFC president Dana White has recently given a massive update on Chimaev’s next fight, and it’s as big as it gets.
Chimaev has established himself as one of the most fearsome fighters in the promotion, with his dominant performances and impressive record of twelve wins and zero losses. Considering his reputation, White believes that the rank 3rd welterweight should be next pitted against the best of the best available. The 28-year-old has never shied away from an opportunity to ‘smash’ anybody, regardless of who the opponent is. And with White’s update, it’s certain that Chimaev’s pulse will be racing, as well as that of the fans.

During a recent interview, Dana White, the head of the UFC, revealed what’s next for Khamzat Chimaev, and it’s nothing short of exciting. According to the UFC president, the dominant Swede would be moving up to middleweight, and he wants to see Chimaev fighting the upper echelon of fighters in that weight class, that being Alex Pereira, Israel Adesanya, and Robert Whittaker.
Responding to Chimaev’s comeback, Dana White said, “Yeah, he will fight at middleweight, yeah.” He further added, “And yes, I mean, he’s in a position where he should be fighting, you know, top 3 guys in the world.”
‘Borz’ has been vocal about wanting to fight the reigning middleweight champion, ‘Poatan’, but with White’s idea, he might just get one of the top three contenders at middleweight. With Pereira being the current champion and Adesanya, Whittaker, and Cannonier dominating the division, it seems any of these fighters could be his next fight.
However, as tempting as the idea may be, the 28-year-old Chimaev has his eyes set on a different goal, with something that he believes belongs to him.
Eyes on the divisional gold first
With UFC 286 just a day away, it seems like Khamzat Chimaev is keeping a close eye on the title fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman, just like every other UFC fan. However, ‘Borz’ has a different motivation behind it. He feels that the welterweight championship belt belongs to him, and he has put out the word that he is coming to get it from the ‘clowns’ Edwards and Usman.
