A fantasy matchup between Khamzat Chimaev and Conor McGregor remains a fantastic proposition. Perhaps we’ll never get to see it in action or perhaps we might. ‘Borz’ moved to middleweight for his last fight against Kamaru Usman. However, Conor McGregor has been planning and teasing at moving to the 185-pound division. Does that connect the dots like never before?
In truth, there’s no way to tell. Chimaev recently opened up about the potential of the fight tagging himself levels above ‘The Notorious’. The two have never fought before but the Chechen is certain he can secure a first-round finish if they fought. Here’s what he said about demanding a bout with the Irishman.

Conor McGregor has previously championed not one but two divisions. The former lightweight and featherweight champion has now hinted at his next fight being at middleweight and it makes sense for him too. But is Khamzat Chimaev still too big for him?

McGregor’s natural bodyweight is closer to lightweight while the same cannot be said for Chimaev who has been fighting at welterweight up until recently. In a recent conversation, he mentioned how he’s demanded the fight twice at least before.
“Everyone wants to fight with this guy man. He is not that high level guy for me. Would be easy for me to take him down and finish him first round . . . I’m different level man. I’m too big for him . . . Check which level I am which level he is. Which weight class he is, which weight class I am. . . I’ve been always open. First time, second time you see I told the guys ‘I want to fight with this guy if he want’ 170, I don’t think we gonna fight and I’m 185. “

Clearly, things didn’t quite pan out right with Chimaev wanting to battle it out with ‘The Notorious’. The Irishman is slated to face Michael Chandler in his next bout with the two even captaining their respective teams for The Ultimate Fighter. Chandler has also spent significant time on the sidelines owing to the potential fight against Conor McGregor. At the moment a fight between Chimaev and McGregor looks unlikely with the Irishman having unfinished business to tend to. However, will the fight happen in the future?
