There are several rumors and reports regarding a potential fight between the former welterweight champion and the undefeated Swedish prodigy. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ recently shared a tweet predicting that he will finish Khamzat Chimaev within four rounds of the fight. The war of words between Chimaev and Usman does not seem to end as they continue to trade jibes at each other. Usman wrote, “I stop him in 4. Watch the tapes.”

Both fighters have great credentials to put on a great fight for the fans. But the chances of this fight taking place in the welterweight category seem highly unlikely. Dana White suggested Khamzat Chimaev move up a weight class after missing weight by a large margin in the buildup to his fight against Nate Diaz for UFC 279. Moreover, Dana White is reluctant to set up the fight between Chimaev and Usman.

Dana White does not entertain the idea of a catchweight bout

The UFC president is not a fan of the Usman vs Chimaev fight taking place at catchweight. He wants the fight to take place in a proper weight category. Dana White explained that a catchweight bout has no meaning since there is no way to progress after winning a fight like that.

During an interview with ‘The Schmo’, the 53-year-old promoter said, “I don’t do catchweights. Catchweights don’t mean anything.” However, he is open to making the fight official if both fighters agree to fight in the middleweight category, since there will be a chance for them to advance to other opponents in the division.
