UFC fighters often make outlandish claims, and the recent among the bunch is India’s lightweight contender, Anshul Jubli. During an interview, the 30-year-old claimed that there wasn’t any difference between him and the Dagestan phenom, Khabib Nurmagomedov, but what caught the attention of the MMA community was his claim that he could tap the Hall of Famer out. Well, this outrageous claim prompted a response from AKA head honcho and Khabib’s former coach Javier Mendez, who gave the Indian fighter a reality check.
Anshul Jubli, after winning the Road to UFC competition, has yet to open his account in a proper UFC fight, as he has racked up two consecutive losses since debuting on the main roster. But despite his inability to secure a win so far, Mendez mentioned that he knew him, and didn’t have any issues with the fighter, but he did take issue with his claims, albeit in a light-hearted manner.
“He’s a good kid. I don’t know why he’s saying ridiculous things like that [chuckles]. Maybe he’s trying to get attention. He’s in no position to talk like that,” Javier Mendez stated on his YouTube podcast. Nurmagomedov’s former coach also reminded Anshul Jubli that to make such claims, he has to be in a certain position, but his record doesn’t suggest that he can do what he claims he can to ‘The Eagle’. “Be a champion or be a number one contender. You wanna talk that kind of talk, but bro, I mean, what’s his record?”

Furthermore, Mendez mentioned that the level of training and the people Jubli trains with cannot be compared to the people who train with Khabib Nurmagomedov. After all, his team has multiple world champions, with Islam Makhachev being the most notable active champion in the current era. Moreover, the former 155lbs juggernaut trained with legends like Daniel Cormier. Luke Rockhold and Cain Velasquez. So, Mendez doesn’t see how Jubli can back his claims regarding the undefeated Nurmagomedov. “I don’t think he trains with the level of people. I mean, if he had been around Khabib and he’s seen Khabib. Boy, that’s a pretty big, I don’t know. You know what King Kong looks like?”

“If there is something different between Khabib and me, then they are different on skill levels. But I will definitely take that chance. I have to survive the first round. Can knockout in the second round. I can submit Khabib, I can do anything,” said Anshul Jubli. Furthermore, he also claimed to be ready to face either Khabib or his champion protege, Islam Makhachev, if he had to chance to jump the gun. “If I get a call that with Khabib or with the current champion Islam if I have a fight, I will jump at that opportunity.”
